So... I have entered the mining business, and I love it. The hours are great, you don't have to travel as much... Just love it!

However, I want to take it to the next level. So...
I heard you're able to get more ore from rocks if you follow a protocol.

So, if I get a Deep Space Engineering ID and buy a Mining Ship. Will I get bonus when I mine ore in Pennsylvania? Will I fill up quicker?

I've read the Mining guide and it says something about IFF (supposed to be flashing when pressing F(, but none of the factions flash for me)

Deep Space Engineering

Bonus: Platinum, Copper, Silver
Ships: Mining Ship, Basalt, Dacite, Mafic, Spatial
Mining Systems: Pennsylvania, Colorado

That's a yes for DSE in PA. Do DSE missions until DSE is flashing, meaning you have the DSE IFF/Tag.
You will need one of the ships listed above and mining lasers to go along with that DSE ID and IFF for the full bonus.

Ok, thanks. Doing missions? So trading with them or owning an ID doesn't do it? Should I get a fighter and do missions first?

If you take DSE missions from Planet Pittsburgh in NY the missions will be very low level, you can complete them in a freighter, transport or fighter.

Great! I'll look into that!
Will any mining turret do? Is the class 2 Fighter Mining turret ok?

Fighter mining turrets are good on fighters, but transport mining turrets give higher yeild, so if you've got a mining ship, i'd go with transport mining turrets.

I have it on good authority that there is no practical difference between the turrets.

Oh, well, i remember something being said about a difference between them in one of the mining mod announcement threads.

So, discount my above statement.

What you gotta do now is hire a transport to cart the ore to the refinery, and an escort fighter or bomber to protect it whilst you mine away with a minimum of cash on board.

Either that or get ready to hand over some credits.:)

Mining is great, yes, but I would really suggest spreading yourself out to a different mining spot; like into Tau-23, Cambridge, or Dublin with a BMM ID, or Omega-7 with a Kruger ID. These fields are just as good as Pennsylvania, however, they don't have quite the same number of pirates. In fact, I do have on good authority that the Omega-7 Elbich Field is rather awesome.

And, of course, for future reference, The Official Mining Guide.

[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
