The race in the SP Campaign would've been a scripted event, in a similar way the escort mission (the very first one) was scripted. As we know, the escort mission is impossible to recreate as a playable MP mission, thus, I don't think the race would be possible.

Just my theory, Igiss can uphold/refute it as appropriate.
