Earlier today on my Hacker GS, I encountered quite a fun RP situation with the LCBO - and it ended up with me surrendering myself to several upstanding (and rather un-bribe-able) patrolmen. After much conversation, it was decided that I would be escourted to a prison base where I would be properly detained and await trial (for some indiscretion or another).
As they were great with their RP, I decided to play along until it hit me - there was no place I could surrender myself to.
My only options were to escape or to get gunned down (by god, if I'm going to prison, I'd rather have my personal effects handed back to me when I get out).
In the end, I was forced to cut the rp short and run to rochester on my own terms rather than have it come to an awkward grinding halt due to lack of game mechanic support.
Would it be possible to have a neutral station attached to certain military base stations designed for prisoner internment? Something which anyone could dock on to, and does not have speed docking points so as to allow people to take screenshots of the docking.
This can allow for an RP end to a capture scenario, and would also open up a fun RP alternative to bounties by adding an "wanted dead or ALIVE" dynamic. Also, have docking at said neutral portion be considered a reduced form of PVP death so as to encourage would-be criminals to take capture as a viable alternative to dying in the cold vacuum of space (well, perhaps prison food is a fate worse than death).
I would say that RP stands above most of the rules, as long as ALL affected parties/people agree and are willing to play the "scenario". Which applies in case of surrendering I would say. Can't see how escorting to prison and "logging" before it could be abused. I don't believe someone who would play along so far would log in right away and attack the policemen.
ButI have to wonder, once you are escorted to one of the prisons and the "log off" ... What's next? Deleting the character? I mean 4 hours offline? 4 hours out of the system/house space? And how to roleplay that... In case of ship destruction, you can say "insurance company" paid the new on, something similar, but 4 hours in jail...mmm.
But it would be great if there was more than just fight until you kill everyone, die or manage to get away. Surrendering is a realistic opinion.
I buy things I don't want to make an impression on people I don't like.
