it hard to get ahead

i am hugh fan of free lancer and have till my most resent rp had alot of fun with the discovery mod
you see i tryed miner rp it was going well till i got a firefly with a nice big hold
you know how long that takes to fill with gold (to long) after weeks and weeks of collecting gold from the fields
i finelly got it full so i start to go get my payed day
not to far along i get pirate taxed and i have no money to pay him and he's a small ship and will not take gold
my fault for not keeping little money to pay them of
so i keep playing
but not as much becuase been busy and pissed that i went to all that work and got nothing out of it
so i do a little work get a mill on hand

and spend the next 3 month on and off mining my gold
i get bored and deside to deliver before full
2748 in hold
so i start heading to get my payed before long i get pirate again
but they want 2 mill or 2700 gold as that all they could hold
which i didn't have the money and well if i give my gold i lose 3 months plus work
i run i fight i fail they kill me i lose months of work

WHAT is the point in a miner id you can't make any money doing it
and pirates are not will to work out deals that are reasonable
it's give us all you have ro we kill you well i lose every if you kill me anyways so just kill me

looking back i my should have dumped the cargo and distoryed it so no one could get it

i'm sick of playing this game when you rp an honest hard working person and get nothing but screwed over

but i guess that makes it realistic

but i got a new rp pissed off miner sell is cargo ship buys a fight and goes Vigilante and hunts down and kills ever pirate give honest people a hard time

i'm sure this happends to more people then me
and it make me ask how many people are out in discovery doing honest people rp
and do they ever get ahead

Hey friend, I understand your frustration. I play a miner character myself. Here's some tips I use to 'get ahead' as it were.
1. Don't mine in a Firefly. Get a mining ship, mining turret, a mining faction IFF and ID.
2. Don't mine alone. EVER. Join a mining faction like BMM, IMG etc. They can provide scouts, protection while mining, haulers and some good company. More miners = more credits and better chance to rp.
3. Avoid mining during peak times. More people online means more pirates in game to take your hard earned credits.
4. Not all pirates are there to steal all your cargo. Get the best scanner you can to get a jump on who it is that is coming after you. If it's a pirate transport, run for the hills. If it's a bomber, they probably just want a donation. Learn your enemy. I'm assuming your mining in Dublin. Look at the factions that pirate you and learn what their agenda is.
5. Try and RP as much as possible with the pirates. Some are nasty, no doubt, and will not talk with miners. Most are looking for RP as well. Try and make an interesting character, chat it up with the pirate. I have a miner who is a low intelligent, kind-hearted brute of a man who has a weakness for female pirates. He happily pays them and even gives them a little extra to buy something 'pretty.'
6. Don't mine in Dublin if you can help it. I know it pays the most, but it also is the most heavily pirated areas as well. Pick a different, quieter spot to shoot rocks.
7. Learn the mining bonuses that every mining faction has. Here's a helpful link... http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=35701

Anyways, that's what I came up with off the cuff. It is possible to make credits. Just have to keep your wits about you and learn about your equipment and surroundings. Wish you the best...

3 months for one load? I've only been playing the game for about 2 months now and I have a battlecruiser. All I can say is try trading if mining just isn't working.

As others have noted, mining can be better accomplished in other ships, with other IFFs and IDs. I highly suggest you read a mining guide in the tutorials section of this forum. I collected three holds worth of gold just today with some BMM friends.

Yeah, Its very tough to start out here. Its mostly because of fear of newbies capwhoring, which happens anyways.

Escorts also help, they give you that satisfaction of watching the pirate go boom. (I've had cruiser escorts before lol)

Many pirates are lolwuts, and are just in it for the '2milrdai' money.

RP is not the solution for everything, sadly.

You will find out that everything here takes a while to get, wether it be fighters, or battleships.

Like I say, if this was a true RP server, ALL ships would be 'Special RP' but they would be $0.

Your RP character would earn you the ship.
