So why has this feedback thread turned into "Wild name is stupid lol lets change it"?

Because Lyth has a talent for derailing threads without any need or any obvious reason. I'll repeat what I posted before Lyth derailed it and what got hidden by all the spam:

(10-20-2020, 11:36 PM)Thunderer Wrote: I think it would be cool if Wilde characters spoke differently when they speak to each other, than when they speak to humans. When they speak to humans they must pretend that they are also humans in order to infiltrate, so they will obviously imitate human speech. But when they speak to each other, I don't think they should speak like the persons in this comm linked there, but their sentences should be a lot more basic and much shorter and more laconic. I think their speech should only value efficiency at conveying thoughts, ideas and memories, not have any taste for art, or at least art of human oratory, literature and poetry.

I'm not making a remark or trying to speak badly about Wilde factions, just saying something I've just noticed when I read parts of this linked comm. Would be cool, that's all. Figuring out how infected characters should speak among each other when they can't use telepathy is an art of its own.

From what I know, all nomads have one mindshare and they are supposed to share their minds without dummy "Communication/Encryption", but the situation @Thunderer says is quite different: Vagrants and K'Hara have separated mindshares and they can't use telepathy or any kind of extrasensory whatever you call, so communication between their Wild characters is reasonable, but K'Hara/K'Hara or Vagrant/Vagrant is not.
Maybe I am wrong, so correct me.

That's quite an interesting subject you've opened. If the K'Hara and the Vagrants don't have the means to communicate directly, then that places the Wilde into the role of mediators. The Wilde can also speak the human tongue and thus enable the two Nomad groups to communicate.

But my point was not about that, my point was how the Wilde should speak human languages when they speak human languages among each other (not to uninfected humans). I think it should be downgraded (or upgraded if you are a Nomad) to the basic, utilitarian form. No poetry or style, only efficiency.

PS: Example how I would say this if I was a Wilde:

"Interesting. K'Hara and Vagrants can't communicate directly: use the Enlightened's human tongue as mediation.

Not my point: it is how Enlightened and Enlightened speak to each other in human tongue. No waste on style: utilitarianism."

Karlotta is still around?! Woah, that takes me back. And you haven't changed one bit by the looks of it. Man, some part of me knew you were too stubborn to ever stop playing here. You literally outlasted the admin teams that kept kicking you around. I'm impressed.

But alas, I'll indulge in picking apart your odd logic, for old time sake.

(10-21-2020, 12:16 PM)Karlotta Wrote: "Wilde" is stupid because it basically means "savages" in German and therefore hardly related to anything the nomad-controlled Rheinlanders were.

Yes, Das Wilde means "The Wild" in German, because Das Wilde were named by the human victims they obliterated. They are referred to as being savages because they're utterly in-human. They have no hatred, no fear, no empathy, no love, just destruction as far as their victims are concerned.

It's a great name for them because the Rheinlanders are a proud people and they view Das Wilde as "The Others"

(10-21-2020, 12:16 PM)Karlotta Wrote: "Wild" is stupid for the same reasons.

Nah, for the same reasons as above, The Wild are a great name for Nomad infected humans, because they act wildly and unpredictably. They are violent for seemingly no reason and they're impossible to capture or interrogate effectively so no one knows what goes on in their minds.

(10-21-2020, 12:16 PM)Karlotta Wrote: "Infected" is stupid nomads aren't a fricking virus.

No... Nomads are organic, space-bound lifeforms. And the symbiotes that they use to create Nomad infected troops are a form of parasite, that hides amongst the spinal column/base of the skull.

(10-21-2020, 12:16 PM)Karlotta Wrote: Proposed possible replacement newspeak terms:

- "The possessed" is what anti-nomad humans would call them
- "The enlightened" is what they would call themselves (entering the mindshare gives eternal life and the ability to see / live in the past, the future, parallel universes, and various places other nomads are/were/will be/could be in)

Nope, we don't need a new name for them. The Wild, Das Wilde etc are all fine names for them. Humans may call them "possessed", perhaps as a slang term or a more "woke" version of the name. But anyone that deals with the Wild and have seen corpses know that they have symbiotes in controlling their brains.

The Wild wouldn't have a name for themselves though, outside of creating a brand to scare humans with, they are as much Nomads as the Nomads deep in the Omicrons. The Wild see themselves as Nomads, and they're connected to the Nomad hivemind most of the time.

They can operate independently much better than regular Nomads though because their biology is more like a hybrid. They're the mind of an individual Nomad merged with the brain of the host, which allows the Nomad symbiote to use the human part of the brain for individual behaviour patterns.

This is also why the Wild can't ever defect or become a free-thinking individual, as every single Nomad symbiote is programmed the way natural Nomads are. Their sole purpose is to serve the hivemind and each other. It's the same reason Ants don't just wander away from the colony and live a life of solitude.

Interesting thoughts there bud, but the Wild actually communicate locally through telepathy. They communicate in pure thoughts, like you said, more abstract. Their communication is the same way the Nomads communicate, it's one of the reasons the Wild are so effective in combat, they fight as one coordinated being, instead of communicating battle info.

Back in the day, we mostly roleplayed speech between us as a way of intimidating or confusing our foes. Sometimes we made an effort to speak to each other through comms when we were using diplomacy, to make the people we were talking to feel more comfortable. Humans... eh?

(10-21-2020, 12:47 PM)Groshyr Wrote: "Infected"? "Infested"?

It's technically Infested. Infected would mean a disease carrying organism (kinda) and Nomad symbiotes don't cause a disease of any sort. Unless you consider them hijacking your brain and body as a disease. If anything, Nomad symbiotes are a miracle cure, because people infested with them don't get sick and stop aging.

Source: I am the OP, and I helped found the faction with my boys back in the day. I also helped write a lot of the lore for the Wild back in the day, and I haven't been around for eight years so the lore may have been changed.

Also, nice to see people still using this thread for both Feedback, and Crying their eyes out. Nice.
