I can very well remember people yelling at me that I should fly a corsair before claiming their tech wouldn't be as bad as they make it... Right now I own a gunboat and a Titan and have flown Gladi and Correo in the past as well.
I enjoy flying around Sirius and testing out other factions and other places. If I don't like it there, I can always move on, but it's nonetheless nice to know the other side too. It will help you notice that they are players here to have fun too.
I'm probably getting labelled to a certain factions as much as Zelot. Just in my case it's the 101st, maybe for some few people Samura|- if they care enough about trade factions, yet I've flown many different kind of stuff too. I've had chars in all house military factions so far (currently the only one missing is the BAF), tried half the secret services, ALG, Kruger, Daumann, BMM and Gateway in the past, flown a Viper Mk II and later a Nyx against the outcasts in Tau 23 (Am currently considering to redo that char), had a short trip as a Zoner who later turned into a GMG before I left them too. Flown with the order for a short time, later with the BHG|Core, now only regular BHG|. I still have my very first char who is a Blood Dragon and have flown as a criminal of different factions in every house too.
So I wholeheartedly support Zelot's post and will gladly blame him later if it reduces the bias some people are wearing against certain faction. It's a game, don't take it personal - enjoy it.

Uh that was really nicely put. I remember when I joined, at first I had only one character and I was so into it I couldn't understand how people manage to have more time to RP others, or ideas. As I didn't play any online roleplay game before I got adjusted trough the time.
At one point I had too many characters, which I couldn't bare with, I felt like it's my duty to be active, to post in message dumps, to actually contribute something to the faction. So I eventually cut my characters to the number I can devote my time to.
I remember once I opened thread about why do people from one faction join opposite side, does it affect their roleplay, how can they avoid metagaming and such. But yes, it's not hard, and yes it's great to meet the other side of the fence. We're all people here, coming to spend that free time we have from real life to have some fun. Heh I met a lot of people in factions I was, and when you are there you slowly begin to understand we all put costumes and enjoy ourselves.
Currently I'm not on opposite sides, but I do know good amount of people who are on opposite side in faction I play, you start to understand we're all there to RP and enjoy, you learn if you get upset by the game you should just relax and start again. In the end, it's all done for the lulz and for spending free time in some quality way.
I concur with practically everything that's been said. Heck, the reason i just recently joined the TBH was 'cause i wanted to try out a Corsair, to see their point of view. Meaning, when i first joined, the first char i made was an Outcast and I've had him ever since (Which has been 2.5 years i guess?) and i only recently made a corsair. And i gotta tell ya, It's not that different than i thought it would be or life changing or anything, but it's pretty cool to see how they've felt when I was in those raids before.
I have really enough roles to play in real life, so I am quite content with the one single role I play on Disco.
Clarification: No, I am not telling anyone to get a life. Play your chars the way you want. Have as many as you want. Disco would be duller if everyone just used it to drive some small trucks through the lanes as I do. Besides that: Noone ever needs to get a life, because life tends to get oneself in the end anyway.

Works like a charm. I can really encourage other faction players to do the same.
It kills the 'us vs them' mentality that is tearing this community to shreds.
1 downside is when we need numbers for events. People can't be in 2 places at once
Personally I consider multifactioning to be usefull, as long as everyone has fun flying for those factions. Furthermore, it allows to keep OOC hate unexistant in majority of cases.
A thing that's very valid for leaders of a faction (or two) is to be in the skype chat of your traditional enemies (Order to BHG, TBH to 101st, the like) even if he's not a member of your faction.
So when something does go wrong between factions (as it does), then there can be on the spot redressal.
