How many more senseless threads about ranting will there be? Just send a rule violation report and be done with it. Don't sit here typing away your aimless tirads.

Should Corsairs dock in NB on a non-allied base? (Are there any?) No. Screen, file, done. Fined or banned... Whatever, but don't spend a good 15 minutes typing out eight paragraphs of what makes you angry.

Again, it is indeed bad RP. And we are all in a general agreement. 5 pages later, we're talking about Facist Democratic Nazis and yet all still in consensus... And of course IDs.

We get it. Some things upset certain people. Said certain people should not do a back-handed public bashing. I'm feeling rather pessimistic today, which is why I felt the urge to respond so critically.

I bid you, adieu... Or however its spelt.

P.S. 4.5 Minutes:P

Well, Magoo, I sympathize with you but I'm not yet ready to throw in the towel. I sincerely hope this kind of thread eventually gets through to the least advised ones delivering a message to their brains.

*repeated chanting* You will not dock in lawfuls base as pirate. You will not dock in unlawful bases as lawful */repeated chanting*

Even though I've posted some RP violations of this kind myself, I can't ignore the fact that sometimes I think the guy may be doing it out of sheer ignorance. Can we ban him for that? Is it still a rule violation regardless? Sure. Is it a nice thing to do? I don't think so.

You could say, "Meh, most won't even register at the forums, let alone read the walls of text you guys post." Very true, but if at least one single guy did see the thread and read the first paragraph or two of what I originally wrote, its good enough.

Apart from that, we spam bots love them senseless discussions.:D

Hello to everyone from my first post. I have logged about 80 hours on the server (after quite a few hours on the SP) version, and still learning  lol. Sometimes I have a difficult time finding information through the disco search engine, but have received useful help from more experienced RP'ers in-game (sometimes ooc for a newbie, maybe with instructions on where to find the best way to find the answer in the forum/rules) who want to see other players stay and enjoy. It is only recently that the forum is checked (sometimes after resuming play to understand a specific unknown).

I have to say that it was only after about 30 or 40 hours that I began to understand RP; for a newbie with 8500 credits in a Starflier, the biggest concern is not getting dusted. It helps you develop flying/fighting skill but it takes awhile for it to sink in that if you can survive long enough and build up more credits, getting dusted is not the end of your experience; it is just a lesson in humility :D

Another motivation was the cap ship whore thing, which I am glad to say was given up a brief time after the beginning of understanding, and especially with my current character's name...it begs of being able to fly as many places as possible. It would be nice to fly in a ship more suited to exploring, but surviving would not be easy, especially in the Border/Edge worlds (some of which I have only heard about) and getting dusted more than a few times by the Nomads. A new character will eventually be developed for a GB, probably with Order ID and faction tag. IMHO, this type of experience accompanies other players who are not new just to Discovery, but new to online gaming in any form as is my case.

FL also requires less RP (unless you align as per next paragraph) than a faction member and before joining a faction, I wanted to check out the philosophies of each to match my current way of thinking. Other characters would then follow that would allow exploration outside of myself to expand the experience. This gave an insight to RP that other newer players may not consider before choosing (resulting in mismatched ships, tags and ID's). The ship and credits you start out with limits what kind of missions you can survive, and I would not recommend faction alignment before obtaining Disco experience.

And yes, with all of the above you will see me in-game with an LP tag. True FL RP would be having as many neutrals as possible, but that will take quite awhile to work off unless Admin can assist, if possible. I am not adverse to the effort required but should not Civilian (of course Level 29-), Merc and FL tags be locked without affiliation (neutral unless mission specific)? I may take on a mission(s) for a particular faction (other than pirate id's) while in their sector to earn credits while passing through, but that should not affect tag. After all, Mercs and FL should be able to accept missions from all. "That's the nature of the business..". Sorry, that tune is for smugglers. :D

One comment regarding purchasing of ships. I now fly a Viper (Zoner, neutral and more fitting of character) instead of a heavier and more durable Raven's Claw (Liberty, Military/Security). The Raven's Claw was purchased as an open-market item on Houston even though it is listed as a stealth modified from a ship that was originally Kusari (if memory serves me correctly). This would classify it as an advanced ship, though not a large one.

One item, albeit away from the thread: do weapons on ships with more armor/shields drain energy at a slower rate or the same as another ship of the same class? (e.g., fighter class 10).

Many thanks to all who want to help everyone become better RP'ers and take of their time with the passing along of knowledge both in the forum and in-game.

Byron

First thing of all, Byron. Welcome to Disco. Before I reply to what you wrote, let me point you something useful. Take a look at that, it may help you out tremendously.

About that, "True FL RP would be having as many neutrals as possible" it's only so so true. In RP there's little way you'll manage to get everyone to be neutral to you, it's not only about the tags, which I think it's downright impossible, or if not, infinitely painful to obtain. It would be very hard to thread the fine line between the multi sided conflict between the lawfuls and the unlawfuls, between the unlawfuls and even between the lawfuls. At a certain point, within RP, you'll have to make a compromise. Most Freelancers will favor a side over the other, even because, if you don't, you won't be doing much, will you?

I'm not sure I understand your question about the weapons, but if you're referring to the energy capacity between the ships, they're different. Heavier ships tend to be able to fire the same weapons for a longer time as opposed to the lighter ships. Think of the ship's differences as multiple tradeoffs of maneuverability/armor and shield capacity/energy capacity/possible mountable equipment.

Hope this answer your questions. See you in space.

/Actually, I did read Xoria's post and it was one of the incentives to post my own comments and questions. I know that as an FL unlawful missions can be flown, but you're right about the alignment. It would be extremely difficult, although willing to try if RP requires.

Yes, your reply did answer my questions regarding weapon energy. Solo missions against a dozen ships can take quite awhile with a Viper's weapons load-out and energy capabilities. It has proved agile, though (more so than the Raven).

Regarding RM's willingness to shoot first is not true; after all, you didn't dust me when I faced you. You could have, especially with 2:1 or 3:1, but I was given plenty of opportunity to leave with a second warning after a previous incursion. You knew that you were facing a relatively new RP FL'er even with my rank and gave me the benefit of doubt. BTW, I will have to look for the bounty postings. I'm not looking for bounties on RM. Leaning heavily toward a strong affiliation with the Order, which should maintain friendly/neutral status with RM once achieved. I may ask for safe passage from time to time - reply as RP dictates with no personal offense taken (though character might). :lol:/
