Aye, a fully fleshed out and less demonized Koreans would actually make a kick ass film if done correctly. Dare I say TV series for one run?
It was just so well executed... until someone went "Hit the CoD Mk 0.6 button".
THQ have great potential, sadly... I think the business men ate their hopes.
@r3vange. Don't let the Korean Pirate Ninjas find you!!
Also YES please let someone make a good movie where America are the evil, to wit, they are in their own right. Though Britain was the first 'global' conqueror since we murdered thousands across history. Though every major power these days has a very dark history.
I guess all of the Western world... has a very bloody past, especially Europe. Though USA are the latest bloody murderers in the name of Freedom.
Now that loveliness aside, I'll go play some PS1 Rollcage I bought today before sleep.
[color=#FFFFFF]Yeah Fletch I could talk the bites out of this forum about the Cold War.
Sadly a movie like that could never happen. Why? Well if you make Call of Duty MWII and you get a whole level of shooting innocent Rus))) civvies it's all right and the warning you get is NOT for cultural discrimination it's Extreme violence? I am pretty sure if you take the mentioned scene and turn it the other way around some American mother will be pretty outraged by it since "That pixel there could have been the representation of my son"...I had the "honor" of growing up in a country on the border between East and West so I had a pretty solid view on how sh*t were both countries in that 60 year period of time that is still the inspiration of many media forms "Take revenge on something that never happened"...Sad story really sad. Games like that are and will be made I just hope the producers show a bit of creativity as for example in World In Conflict
My brother bought this for me because he was very excited for it.
The single player is completely frustrating. If you're familiar with sprite jumping in platforming games, that's what I would compare it to. I put most games on the highest difficulty because I enjoy the challenge, but this game is not challenging; it is tedious. Somehow, the AI always manages to land a grenade JUST within range of you to kill you, or it whips around and shoots you in the face almost instantly. The way it works is less challenging than repetitive, and really while games like Bad Company 2 have a difficult Hardcore mode in SP, it wasn't because the AI were very good at calculations, it was because level design and objectives were inherently difficult. The problem is confounded when the allied AI (who seem to have a 1/2 foot box around them which you can't enter) often get in the way when you try to move from cover to cover, escape a grenade, or get to the next checkpoint. The campaign feels a lot like Half-Life 2, and I found myself wondering why my flashlight wasn't turning on when I pressed F halfway through the game (incidentally that button throws C4). From where I am in the story, there wasn't really one moment where I didn't expect what was next. Even then, I couldn't advance the plot easily because a lot of times I was blocked by NPCs or invisible walls. Additionally, the sound it makes when you are hit with a bullet is something akin to a midget slapping it's hand on a fat man's stomach. Kind of silly.
In multiplayer, it plays like a Battlefield game with a CoD engine. Most of the success I've had has been from moving to an advanced position early, then waiting for unsuspecting enemies to run past, and lighting them up with my assault rifle (AKA camping). Actually engaging in active combat (that is moving from cover to cover, utilizing friendlies, basically anything besides camping, dolphin-diving, and spraying) has turned out to be pretty useless because there's a Sniper, somewhere who can magically see and kill you even though he's never in that position when you check it. The Battle Point system is very neat, though, because you can get what you want in a fight right there, instead of having to die, wait, spawn as engineer, etc.
Overall, I like Bad Company 2 better, in mostly every aspect. That said, it's not necessarily a bad game. The multiplayer takes a little bit of getting used to, but I am sure a little further into release, everything will even out into a more enjoyable experience.
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
I just finished the game today. All in all, not a bad game. Not a great one, either. Better than Halo, but not as good as CoD4 or MW2.
The combat was mostly OK, though I noticed the issue with grenades always being right at your feet even on the normal skill setting. It bordered on luck-based gameplay, and I turned down the skill level just so I wouldn't have to repeat the same section over and over until I got it just right. It mostly helped, and otherwise it played about the same as the Modern Warfare series.
The story's background was a stretch, but just barely enough on this side of plausible that it didn't break my suspension of disbelief. The effort they went to in showing off the horrors of the Korean occupation was rather well done, I think. It really could've been anyone's home town here in the US, and they did a good job drawing you in early on. Now, it did get a bit weaker as the game went on, I thought. For example, you never find out why your character was wanted by the Koreans other than that you were a pilot. That seemed a bit odd as it looked as though Col. Jeong was going to be an important character. Then, he just dropped out of the picture in mid-game.
Other than that, the overall progression was fine, but the ending was rather abrupt. When the ending credits rolled, I felt a distinct lack of closure. One of the main characters was dead, and he stopped a KPA armored column, but you never even found out whether the US army and the resistance had managed to liberate the city or not. I didn't expect to liberate the entire US in the game, as I can tell they're setting up for a sequal, but this was a bit too vague. One more chapter to wrap that up would not have been a bad thing.
All in all, I didn't feel as though I wasted my time, and the game did keep me going through the whole thing. I'd say it's a decent game, even if there are better ones out there.
