Due to the high concentration of copper in lower Omega-7 in conjunction with the shortage of copper in liberty, it was felt that it was within the interest of Rheinland to assert its inherent right of the protection of self by casting a vote for the annexation of Lower Omega-7. The proposition to annex the Furstenfelde was ratified into law by the Bundestag in a 246 to 8 vote.
