Hey all, Hawkwings here, long-time Disco member, Kusari State Police player, former faction leader of the same, and now self-appointed manager of the Secret Fallback Clubhouse.

So as you may have heard, we recently got our official faction status revoked for being inactive. Damn, that sucks. Now what?

Well, you see, the KSP has always been a low-membership group, and struggled with staying active. I've identified a couple of things that have caused this.

1. Lack of strong leadership. Yes, this means me too. The problem is that we've never had a leader (or a leadership team) who had the time and invested the effort into making the KSP great. What we have had are busy college students that can disappear for months at a time (raises hand) and not put in much time in-game.

2. Discrimination against Kusari. Admit it, you've seen it. For one reason or another, a lot of people avoid Kusari like the plague. Maybe it's the complicated politics? Maybe it's the quasi-legal "criminals" that make life hard? Maybe they just don't like squinty-eyed bastards (racists, the lot of you!)? Whatever the reason, Kusari has always been low activity compared to the other three houses.

3. We're a police faction. Yes, all the other police factions deal with this too. Police are not exactly the easiest faction to play. I've been lolwutted, pew-pewed, and "no engrish lawl"-ed more times than I can count. We fly light fighters (meaning less pewpew), we try to avoid violence (meaning even LESS pewpew) and we have RP as our main goal (what no pewpew?). Therefore, this is an unattractive faction to join for new players. Only older and more experienced players join, but the problem there is that they often have many other commitments to deal with, and those tend to be more exciting than the managing of KSP duties. Police work is inherently about reaction, rather than action.

So I ask you, the community, for help here. First of all, this is a thread to gather up all the people who may have been thinking of joining the KSP, and encouraging them to try. Oh, you'll hate it a lot of times, I sure do. Dealing with stupid people all the time is ridiculously soul-crushing. I guess we have fun sometimes too, right? Don't we? Secondly, I'd like to start a discussion about these problems I've identified. Obviously problems 2 and 3 are much bigger than our faction alone, but maybe we can get some good creative ideas flowing as to how to alleviate those problems.

Another point: thanks for the sympathy and all, but let's please not turn this thread into a bunch of "Sorry to hear that, sucks to be you, but you have my support!" +1 posts. They may be nice but they don't help.

And by the way, GRP players are welcome in the Secret Fallback Clubhouse too!

On topic : Yeah as you said it, police factions are struggling for survival even in more active houses. For some reason people don't see Kusari appealing, I don't know why. When I joined the community Kusari wasn't interesting for me too, but eventually I started playing there. What I figured out, you get pretty quality RP interaction for the same reason, only veteran players usually play in Kusari.

I guess Liberty and Bretonia are easier for new players, cause its "mainstream" thing. I think Rheinland has the same problem as Kusari for that reason. I can't say much, thing is this won't change. Its just the way it is. Don't get me wrong, its cool to have official faction, but you can be one kick ass unofficial group. It has nothing to do with leadership, members bla bla. Kusari is just not appealing to most players.

I "would" join, but as you stated I'm one of those students who don't have much time to spend in game, so there is no point in trying. Anyhow, good luck and keep up the lulz. K.

I agree with primitive.

There isnt really much you can do, police factions are not attractive becouse the navy/military can do their work + they have bigger ZoI, what means more pew and interraction with players in general.

Yes, people might join up when they will read your post, but will they be also active? Will they keep playing their KSP char when the emphoria is gone? Some yes, some not. But still it doesnt change the fact that radical changes are needed in order to keep the faction running smoothly without thinking everyday how to attract new people. Changes what might not be able to be done by players, but by devs...

I'll say what I always say to a house that is inactive: The reason it is inactive is because it is inactive. It's how I always say it, just before the mining mod Bretonia used to be less active than Rheinland. Rheinland was kept active because there were a couple of super active factions there. Now Rheinland is mostly inactive, because the bulk of the RM sits in Hamburg or Omega-7 where the action is, so the core is usually fairly empty aside from the odd silent trader or pirate.

This works both ways however. You can bring activity to a house if there is something there for players to log online for. I know it may not sound like much, but get a team of people together then regularly try to pull GC/dragons and maybe even the GMG from skype and ingame for a scuffle or few. I won't lie to you, you'll probably not see any big effect straight away, but the moment people start hanging out in New Tokyo or somewhere in Kusari, you'll get other people coming from other parts in Sirius or logging in their Kusari characters to shoot you or at the very least just see what the commotion is all about.

What this takes however is at least one person with dogged determination to drag people ingame and organise everything. You should either look for a person like that or try to do this yourself.
