I know usurers who'd give a dozen kidnies for the phone number of such "private company that rents out hospital rooms for such procedures" and for links to sites that contain such ads. :)

If the story's true, (which it most likely isn't) this kid is lucky that he wasn't killed and harvested for all his organs, which is a real fad in China nowadays as I recall reading lately. And the story most likely isn't true because of just that. Why would someone pay him $3000 for a kidney (which is a capital crime) instead of killing him and selling all his organs for much much more (also a capital offense, go figure.)...
But if the story IS true, then I'd have to say the kid is dumb as a lamppost. Cause an iPad really is worth a lifetime of health problems and pain.
