Well, if we could arrange for this idea to be deployed on a test server I would be willing to test it. I could also be persuaded to model new weapon models for it should the need arise.

I think the capship guns got suggested and shot down before, primarily because it could still take a large chunk out of somebody's shield; indeed, I proposed something along the same lines involving nuclear cannon shells which would have worked basically the same way these do (except the damage was in the 30000-50000 range and they moved 2000 m/s and had a reeeally big explosion effect). Me, I think it works for both; projectile weapons should always hold a place next to energy cannons, if for no reason other than simplicity of maintenance and reliability.

Bump. Marauder seems to have made another thread on this, I'd like to bring this concept to attention as well. I really don't see what the problem with 70 rounds is...

Linky to Marauder's other thread.

If we're talking fighter wep, 70 rounds at 4.00/sec is only a 17.5 sec burst before it runs dry. That's not a lot. I think ammo that low would really handicap the gun and no one would use it.

I sure would. That's why I'm usggesting jacking up the speed so much...and the A10 runs out faster than that, if memory serves, but I guess that's beside the point ^_^. If Marauder's idea about changing the mass works I'd like to see if we can combine the principle.

Dude don't compare it to the A-10! That thing can open a tank like a tin of beans. In FL it takes a lot longer to down an enemy. Anyway, yea beside the point:)

:Daaah, great Concept, getting a single of these babies on a light fighter... and then sniping at the opposition. Who wouldn't like a weapon like that? and with about 2500-3000 it would come handy mostly in figher battles, perhaps nerfing the refire rate down to about 2 rps... why not have it in just for the looks of it....

Look at me, i have a 70 shooter, Bam bam, damit, ran out of ammo....

Just think of posibilites, tactic wise, exchanging ammo with comrades, flying resuply runs, great fun!

just a cosmetic suggestion:

when it comes to sound and graphics - i would suggest to give it the sound of a full salvo of shots instead of a single "bang" sound of a gun. - and the graphic might be that of a few tracers. ( a very long projectile which is mostly transparent but shows some sparks )

that way - you shoot one ammo round, but have the feeling as if such a gun considers one round to be like hundreds of bullets.
