[font=Book Antiqua]The 13th Squadron is a subdivision of the Maltese Navy
mainly consisting of Series "Z" Sabres though there are exceptions notably a single Trident-Class gunboat and a
Ranseur-class dreadnought. The squadron's role is establishing space superiority during naval operations.
When members of the 101st are present all 13th assets are directly under command otherwise the squadron
follows its own command structure. Privateering and assault on miners and traders is not a priority though due
to the lack of restrictions some individual pilots occasionally engage in acts of piracy.

[font=Book Antiqua]The earliest traces of what is to become the 13th
can be traced back to 786 A.S When the Maltese navy assigned a squadron of "X" Series light-fighters to
Cali base in Tau-23 system in response to the growing IMG presence in the system. The squadron became
dubbed "Cali's quick response wing" and under the command of Jose "Vaquero" Lopez it gained a
considerable record for the next 4 years. After the battle of Tau-29 in 800A.S the Navy realized that the
light fighters were ideal for taking out the forces of the IMG but against a more significant force they were
pretty much useless. All of the pilots of the Cali's wing got recertified to fly the Series "Z" Sabre in 801A.S

In 803 A.S the Maltese Navy's annual threat assessment report concluded that the at that time the Corsairs
were a bigger threat than the one present in the Tau-23 system. The squadron got transferred to Omicron
Eta from there they could strike deep within Corsair territory. During the first raid however things went
horribly wrong. Two squadrons consisting of four Series "Z" Sabres were to preform a hit and run mission in
Omicron Gamma. The first group consisted of Jose Vasquez, Samantha Marquez, Fernando Halsey and
Apollo, the second one of Clementina Ortiz, Raoul de Angelis, Pedro Guerrero, and Vito Callente. When they
reached Gamma the attack wings were intercepted by a squadron of Corsair fighters, nothing they couldn't
have handled. However Samantha spotted an unescorted Bomber so she went in for the easy kill instead of
covering Vasquez's six o'clock. Spotting the uncovered Sabre an M10 "Titan" opened fire and evaporated
Vasquez before he could eject. With the squadron leader dead and the XO god smacked by what just
happened the attack group descended into disarray. The Corsairs had no problems eliminating the
chaotically flying Sabres. Out of the 8 Sabres that went in only 3 made it back, Halsey, Apollo and Raoul de
Angelis, Samantha shot down herself survived and was picked up by her retreating squadron mates.

Fallowing the failure of the operation the squadron disbanded the surviving pilots that didn't quit the navy
returned to regular duty. Seven years later in 810 A.S answering to a request made by Raoul de Angelis the
navy formed a new squadron, quickly joined by veterans of the failed Gamma offensive the squadron
gained considerable fame in the following year and it became unofficially known as the 13th. In 813,
Samantha Marquez joined the squadron after checking out of rehab, becoming a squadron leader in 816.
Later the same year the squadron officially assumed the name 13th.

[font=Book Antiqua]The 13th operate close to the core Maltese systems with frequent
missions to Omicron Gamma and Tau-23. Most of the 13th resources and administration is on the Kirkwall
station. Most of the squadron's fighters are station in the military installations on Malta. There no official
13th missions carried out in Liberty though several pilots of the squadron are stationed in the New York
system and operate there.
