It's basically just really, really, really hard to get one. Obviously, this is showcased because only four out of 50,000 registered forum players (This isn't even counting non-forum goers) have pulled off enough and unique role play in order to get them. One of these ships (The LNS-Tundra) is not different than an LSC in any of its ship stats. The difference lies in its appearance.
The Persephone - a unique Zoner Juggernaut/Jinkusu - seems to be more for show, as its stats differ little from the public version. Unfortunately, because of a bug somewhere in the ship's design, it cannot be flown on a multiplayer server without being kicked for cheating, hence it isn't being used by its owner at the moment (Or so I heard anyway).
The Satsuma, the Kusarian Emperor's craft, seems to be a mid-class battleship; definitely quite different in stats to its guardian Kusarian Battleship.
Lastly, the Necrosis, a unique battlecruiser-type ship, is almost in a class by itself. Featuring the second highest hull and weapon count rating of any other battlecruiser, the Necrosis is the only non-gunboat capital ship able to mount gunboat weapons; up to four of them to be exact. This gives it deadly anti-fighter capabilities, and anyone short of a gunboat would be downright stupid to try engage something with four missile turrets with the capability of consistently chain firing.
So is it possible? Yes, of course it is. It's just really, really, reallydifficult.

But how many have tried to get a unique ship? Then from those few, which of them were actually serious contenders?
Really, really, really hard to get.
Actually the answer is: lolno , SRP are closed at the moment, due to the fact the administrating team doesn't have the time to go through every single RP story. They are working for a new system and I bet it comes along with the new version of discovery.
Basically, getting one is ( probalby ) impossible, right now.
- dreygon : "MonStar" - ship: Necrosis - a battlecruiser type ship with the unique ability to also mount GB (missiles) in 4 spots
how did he get it?
dreygon started quite early in the days of disco - he had a rather stereotype terrorist / madman roleplay, which was still convincing ... he NEVER trolled or griefed other players - he played FAIR and was very understanding. but then of course - the server was like 40-60 players at peak times.
in that time - his RP was continous, never so exciting to be burned out - and he stuck to it without asking for too much.
he used an outcast destroyer ( hiigaran homeworld battlecruiser model ) at that time - and in 4.84 .... got the necrosis approved, which was modelled ( meshed ) by himself - and skinned by treewyrm i think.
sadly - once he got that .... he started to fade away - and without the continous RP ... his character lost a lot of its uniqueness.
Zapps Tundra:
how he got the unique ship? - he asked - and it just happened to be one of those "logical" choices. there simply was no reason not to make it unique. - however... zapp then announced his retirement from disco along with the chars - so the tundra might not be unqiue at all ( as far as i know - we added the model... but it might be used as a semi public wild ship or whatever )
my own persephone:
roleplay of the char.... rather low key. - the roleplay is generic, the activity is continously low - but present. the ship itself has a history, but nothing that outshines others.
how did the ship become unique?
i simply asked igiss - and he said "ok, if you want to" - the ship itself has a little bug ( i made a mistake in the ini ) - but it gets fixed every now and then when it reverts back.
it is a juggernaut with more armour and less weapons - which only travels with 30ms instead of 90.
what all those have in common :
- ppl have been around continously - and have not really appeared in a negative way.
- the ships aer mostly for show ( looks ) - and should be balanced with the rest of the ships
- they are not meant to be trophies .... and very often, they were already ready to be included ( less work to be done )
chances to get a unique ship these days
- honestly.... chances are lower. that is not cause admins or devs do not want to grant it - but cause the mod has become bigger as a whole. - many players don t stick ( are not dedicated ) to one faction too much these days - and many of those that are ( often many veterans ) have no wish for a unique ship.
unique ships are pure vanity - they can have a negative effect on other players, who rightfully feel that they deserve the same treatment. - besides - disco has so many ships to choose from... there is something for every kind of roleplay in a way.
