I'm really thinking of deleting my vanilla backup install and just have the cds as the backup to see if it works.
Edit: This is regarding Datastorm, the Companion works alright.
Discovery does not overwrite the vanilla files.
Vanilla Freelancer, with no mods, resides at Microsoft Games/Freelancer.
Discovery Freelancer, with 4.86, resides at wherever you pointed the installer at.
Datastorm is looking at your vanilla freelancer.
Simple solution to all these problems:
Rename vanilla Freelancer folder, from "Freelancer", to whatever the hell you want, like "Peaches".
Move DIscovery Freelancer folder to Microsoft Games folder.
Rename Discovery Freelancer folder to "Freelancer".
Programs will now look in the Freelancer folder and suddenly see all the modded stuff as well.
On the note of Companion, works fine with 4.86 for me. Not sure why it wouldn't.

What the hell what version of datastorm do you have I've downloaded like all of the archives on the main site and none of them have the installation freelancer directory path change thing...

I know, i read before installing 4.86
But even changing with the correct [to Disco's] directory path, Datastorm kept reading the "Freelancer" info. Both the Disco folder and the Vanilla are installed at the same place [outside of protected UAC folders though;)]
I just de-installed Datastorm, changed the Disco folder name to Freelancer, changed the directory path to the renamed "Freelancer" and it worked now. Seems Datastorm hates non-Freelancer named folders.
Edit: On second thought, I found a Datastorm Warning file on the Disco mod that said Igiss "strongly" preferred we didn't used Datastorm to discover the secrets of the mod without actually playing it. :$
"Freelancer was not found on this computer !
Please indicate the directory where you installed Freelancer"
Any idea how I could force it to realize there is indeed a freelancer installed there?
Are you talking about Datastorm or FL Companion here? And did you try dropping \EXE from that path? That's not supposed to be there if you're attempting to set up FLC; just point it at the "Discovery Freelancer 4.87.0" folder.
