Somehow got to wondering why not make a CD adapter that fit the gun mount of a bomber. If it was going to support all of the different types of CD then it would need to be an adapter that provided a new CD mount when installed, which may not be possible (dunno if the engine tolerates changes to the mounts). Otherwise it would have to be sold preconfigured for each desired type of CD (of which there are many).

Balance issues don't seem bad to me... The 3 bombers that already have 2+1 would not need it, but almost every other bomber would buy it, since it would free up the CD/T slot for a torpedo. They'd be shedding a gun-mount in the process, so the larger bombers would keep their advantage. As for bomber vs other classes, it would be powerful but if the 3 2+1 bombers aren't overpowered versus other ships then none of them would be. I can see it being powerful, but I don't see how it's more powerful than say barghest already. Powercore would be the limiter for the smaller just like it already is.

The bombers that aren't currently 2+1 are balanced around being 2+1. This would totally break that.

I don't see the disadvantage for the 2+1 bombers. Those ships still have their advantages. Namely they have a powercore that is able to support firing Nova+SNAC together, while the smaller ones don't. Also the smaller bombers would have to give up a gun mount, which weakens them against the 2+1 ships.

To me the potential problem is that its basically trading a gun mount for a torpedo mount (by freeing up the CD/T slot). Everybody would take that offer, and when everybody does something it's a good sign that it's overpowered. However if 2x torpedo is OP then the 3 ships with 2+1 are OP by default. And powercore will prohibit back-to-back firing on the smaller ships so it's less about instakill power as it is about loadout flexibility. Everybody wants the flexibility, is why it would be so popular.

The existing 2+1 bombers are very large and easy to hit. That's what balances out their increased firepower.
Also, bombers are not balanced vs. each other--they're balanced against larger ships, that they'll be attacking. Having a small 2+1 without the size disadvantage is unbalanced.

Maybe. A lone bomber that can CD and dual-torp would be able to solo more stuff than a lone bomber without the CD. Powercore is very limiting though.

Exactly why this is a bad idea.
