I agree completely with Jamez. Would you please make your mind up? Is the gunboat a capital ship or not?
It may not mount battleship shields (even though it has the mount for it), it cant mount heavy weaponry (as you point out in this thread), and its not agile enough to avoid getting hit.


Wolfpack, in principle I agree with you gunboats should not use battleship shields. But how else is it supposed to survive? It handles no better than a cruiser, yet it has half the protection and firepower
Frankly, this is getting ridiculous. The game says that I can mount a lvl 10 shield on my gunboat so why should I not? Especially considering the truly abysmal handling it now has. Also consider that all fighters and capital ships have been vastly upgunned (except the gunboat whos not allowed to play with the big guys), so you need a big shield. The standard Gunboat and Train shields can be stripped away in a matter of seconds with standard weapons, and even less with some of the new weapons.
Ask yourself: why on earth would anyone pay 60+ millions for a shield? The answer is simple: because they are sorely needed. Some ships simply have neither toughness, nor the agility, to survive an encounter with pirates

Thats because i only mounted a single thruster. Having 2 of them is no big deal. They use so much energy that you run out of energy while maneuvering, and you have to stop using it so it can recharge. The extra speed comes at a great cost. And i dont like the idea of using 2x the energy to get a 40% more of speed. Ill stick to the old school single thruster...

Well, gunboat should get better handling, but not that much. If not, it would become a VVHF... Maybe better shields?

If anybody had read the about the history of the Kiith Somtaaw Gunboat
when purchasing it, they would have noticed the words, "Lack of adaptability" and
"weakness" in its description. Its a gunboat, it shouldn't because of a quirk in the
game, be able to sit and go head to head to head with a cap ship because you
can mount BS armour. It should, however, be more like a small motor torpedo
boat, capable of striking a BS, but being very vunerable when doing so.

I thought you said the gunboat WAS a capship. If it has capship maneuverability, it should have capship shields. If you dont want a BS shield stuck on it, why dont u just put the shield mount down to class 9? Also if you are gonna do that, can u plz make the handling a tad better, but not much because TBH, the gunboat shield cant cope with the pounding it recieves because it cant avoid incoming fire. It's a bullet magnet!

EDIT: also can it have a cruiser shield on it still?  ;)

There is a reason that there are three differen types of capital ship shields. BS, cruiser, and gunboat shields. Each for its own ship. Gunboats are weak because they are used for escorting cruisers and battleships. The enemy must focus on the battleship/cruiser while the gunboat flys around and pummels the BS at the same time. It is nothing more than a support ship and should not be strong enough to be anything better than be a support ship.

Everyone here knows that the shield was named Gunboat shield because it was only supposed to be used on a gunboat. It is commen sensse that a BS shield is for a BS not a gunboat. Maybe the Admins will be nice and compensate the shields for you.

It was possible to mount BS sheilds on a Gunboat... so I did.

But... i'll have to find some proper sheilds somewhere.

bugger i just got my BS and i re buy it so i get an extra shield and now i cant use it :(
