Question is - why Valor and Redemption, while being one of the largest battleships built, and also belonging to the Heavy class of battleships balance-wise and possessing large amount of guns, received a cargo hold of 1500? At the level of Sarissa, Mako, Togo.

Also, Osiris - with just 1400 cargo hold, while abovementioned Mako and Togo, who're exactly in same class, received 1500. (and taking into account that this ship was the first one with cloak and was designed exactly for that role, it makes no sense)

What balance factors were influencing these decisions? And/or was it intentional?

I personally think that Heavy Battleships as a standard need 2,000 cargo.

I.E. Kusari BS, Rhienland BS, Valor, Redemption, Zoner Juggernaut, Corsair Dready, Outcast Dready...etc

Heavy Carriers (I.E. Liberty Carrier) need 2500 or more

It just doesnt make sense how big they are and how little cargo they get.

It's like they're worried people would try to trade in them :L

2500 is definitely a bit too much in light of cloaking device. 2000 is already quite alot.

But still, my question stands - why such difference. Give them 1600 at least.

The Carriers are designed to Carry...

Docking modules take up 300 cargo space.

They shouldn't be penalized to do what they were designed for due to a game mechanic.

But alas your 2nd statement I agree with completely...

Heavy BS's should have 1500++ cargo space.

Sorry, but, imho, game mechancis and technical balance comes first, everything else after. And that means their combat abilities should be inferior to battleships, right? If they'll get such a bonus.

The only ship that, at least partially, falls into this category is Liberty Carrier (and possibly Kronos) - too big for it's armor. And even then 2500... is helluva alot.

So, uhm, what does balance team think about the original question?

I just find it funny how I can pull up my Zoner Juggernaut right alongside my Barge, its the same length. Juggernaut may actually be a TINY bit longer, certainly not as fat but still. And you're telling me that still it can only hold 1/25th of a barge? OK. Fair enough, BSs have much more guns/engines/crew/equipment than a simple barge. OK..sorta, now lets reverse this scenario and see if it gets more rediculus.

I pull my 4800 cargo Starwars Medium Transport (we'll call it a Kusari Whale;)) Up next to my Zoner Juggernaunt, and Its maybe 1/40th the size, but yet, it holds TRIPLE?!?!?

Basically, just try to make relative size match relative cargo space, obviously adjusting for roles/etc. Battleships shouldn't have as much because they carry guns/crew/sophisticated equipment etc. Barges should have more because they're just a storage silo with practically no engines, guns or manuverability, its all storage space.

Personally I feel Battleships should have in the 2-3000 range to make it seem A. more realistic given their size compared to other ships with more cargo capacity, but can't have it too realistic because of: B. Not too overpowered compared to transports, we wouldn't want people trading in a battleship (although I personally have no problem if you want to buy a $500 mil transport for trading..as long as its somewhat in RP)

Plus, most importantly, with all the sophisticated equipment, large crew demands etc, shouldn't a Battleship be able to take enough resources with it to get the job done? This is even more-so applicable with modules taking up cargo space and fuel requirements for jump drives/cloaking etc. sub 1000 cargo (after modules and drives are installed) just doesn't seem like enough to get the job done.

Battleships are mostly armor, generators, redundant airlocks, etc etc etc.

Tradeships are bare-bones thin hulled ships.

You dont see an iowa class with the same cargohold as a freighter do you?

Same applies. Battleships are mostly armor and whatnot, and that means cargo space inside is a tradeoff along with manuver and speed.

However i would say that the lib carrier does need 2500 due to its MASSIVE size and 4 docking module slots, (2 normal, 2 heavy).

Question about 1500 cargo hold on Valor and Redemption, in comparsion to other battleships with exception of Togo, Mako and Ossie, still stands...
