Born to the former head scientist of the R&D department of the Rheinland Militaer Dr. Erich Leyden and his wife Luise, Marisa spent her childhood in a residence on Neu-Berlin. During her childhood she was purposively prepared for an academic career, and her intelligence and excellent grades led everyone to put high expectations on her.
At the age of 18 Marisa attended the Leibniz University of Neu-Berlin and graduated three years later with a major in Astrophysics. Facing people from narrower circumstances the first time at the university, Marisa was growing aware of the political and social problems in her fatherland. Out of a mixture of rebellion, idealism and naivety, she decided to break out of her social cage and wanted a radical change to her previous life. This aspiration led her to the revolutionary movement of the Red Hessian Army, a faction she romanticised as a group of freedom fighting idealists.
Although inexperienced, Marisa has proven herself multiple times as a welcome asset to the ranks of the RHA. Her nonviolent approach and idealistic attitude towards fellow Rheinand citizen has gained the movement a respectable number of supporters. And while she's still lacking combat experience, her zeal is well known under both, Hessians and their enemies.
But the Raven, sitting lonely on that placid bust, spoke only
That one word, as if his soul in that one word he did outpour.
Nothing further then he uttered; not a feather then he fluttered--
Till I scarcely more than muttered, "Other friends have flown before--
On the morrow he will leave me, as my Hopes have flown before."
<blockquote>Then the bird said, "Nevermore."</blockquote>

Marisa woke up. As her eyes slowly adapted to the world of light she was thrown into by opening her eyes, she found herself in a room of the hospital wing of Vogtland, lying on a bed. Her head was aching.
Brief memories of a fight appeared in her mind.
Noises.
Flashes of Lights.
Heat.
Then... blackness.
Not again...
It wasn't the first time she ended up like this. In the numerous battles against the Military and the Corsairs she had fought aside her new comrades, more than once was her life relied on mere luck and a working escape pod. But she was living, and she knew it was a luxury.
The life as Hessian was tough, much more than Marisa had expected. This wasn't the bunch of venturous, dedicated and sophisticated idealists she had pictured. Some Hessians were just frustrated miners, sublimating their frustration through violence and piracy, with no hesitance to kill innocent people while hiding behind the pretence of a righteous revolution. Though Marisa despised these people, the violent environment she was now living in made her more and more reckless.
But it was only a small sacrifice to pay for being able to make a difference. Having finally a cause to live and fight for was a whole new sentiment to her, and she decided to put that cause above everything else.
The door opened and Major Black entered.
"Ah, Leyden. I see you're fit again.. Perfect timing, Kapitaen Meisnerr wants us in space in two hours. An equipped and fueled Odin is prepared for you on dock D8."
"Jawohl, Major."
He nodded and disappeared as quickly as he came in.
Marisa stayed motionless for some minutes, then headed to the docks.
