An alien race with technology so advanced as to be able to gently carress the surface of suns, to travel lightyears across space...

Such a group would probably be only interested in us as a rather bizarre social study on primative life forms, some of whom seem incapable of tying their own shoelaces properly. Their collective reaction probably would not involve the words "cleanse" or "purge", but would be more along the lines of "d'awwww... cute". The same sort of reaction we have when we watch a cat endearingly falling off a table.

We have an incredible tendancy towards overestimating our importance... Of course, if an alien race saw our rather resource-light planet (we're already considering looking off-world for certain things), and us living on it, and decided that we were some sort of irrational galactic threat, they'd probably be the sort of idiots who wouldn't have got as far as interstellar travel in the first place... In other words, a bit like us.

Of course, if you're dumb enough to believe that sun-thingymabob is some sort of crazy alien doo-dah, then you're probably also the sort of person who thinks the first alien race that comes across us in the vastness of space (big wide eyes, oversized forehead, daft little arms, looking like a mutated human, of course) is just gonna go "LOL I KEEEL U" as well... So, here's to bad sci-fi.

He has a point, If they were that technologically advanced, they wouldn't be dumb enough to be violent, that's what us monkeys are for.

Edit: Forgot to say It's probably just a fancy pants solar flare that us regular monkeys haven't seen before, unlike the slightly more intelligent monkeys that have glorified video cameras that can transmit the images along a (relatively speaking) short distance and can resist heat.

Our history is filled with examples of how more advanced society annihilates or just kicks around lesser advanced one if it needs that due to some reason, especially since the creation of gunpowder, that increased the gap between "most developed" and "most undeveloped" societies. I've yet to see something different than that. (but most likely I won't live up to that point). Also, the only reason why we didn't have large scale wars in the last 60 years is M.A.D.

As for probability of that thing being something related to "aliens" - extremely small, I'd say. (if it's not some kind of PS at all)
My original post was a half-serious response to a lulzy post bout alienz, nothing more.

We are trying to understand "them" from "our" perspective. What we all say may be true, or may be extremely off the spot. We will see when we meet with one.

On a funny note, US army is building the first "space ship" of mankind as in the ones in sci-fi's and it is named... hold your breath... "Enterprise"

lol.

EDIT: Their build eta is 80-100 years and no hyperdrive as expected =).
