I had already made this topic some time ago when the first episode was leaked on the internet, but now after 8 episodes, time for a bit of a retrospective.

I am...rather disappointed.

Let me get one thing straight. I effing loved the first Avatar. I have seen and read the concept before, but it was still a nice sight to see both the antagonist and protagonist get their equal share of screentime until they joined forces. It was funny, kinda, the art style was fun and the battles were nicely done.

Now we have the Legand of Korra. I mentioned in my old thread that the journey of the Avatar might not be as fun if....

oh right

SPOILER ALERT

Anyway. I mentioned in my old thread that the journey might not be as fun if the avatar already knew most of their stuff. And Kora really seems to be a mix of Zuko and Katara with her mood swings and yet a fragile personality. Fair enough, she has yet to master airbending..good. Still, it takes some of the suspense away, when the battles Aang got into with his friends were well divided into the collaboration of different styles. In this case, we have an almost fully realized avatar and two other bender brothers. And the porn star.

Speaking of which. The 'oh my god I hit you with a vehicle, our romance begins' card. When I started watching the episode, I honestly thought it was a parody of most of the early 2k cheap romance movies. I was damn wrong. I actually had thought that she was a double agent or sorts, but no...she is a mix of Toph and Sokka. A rich child leaving it behind and a non bender, respectively.

Then there is the ''oh my father is the bad guy and I betray him'' part...I seriously facepalmed right there and then. Overused..fair enough...but...come now. I expected more than that.

Then there is the whole ''MY PARENTS/WIFE ARE DEEEEEAD'' thing. The brother's parents. The porn star's mother. K. Fair enough, we had the same one in the first Avatar, where the Southern water tribe and the temples got raided and stuff got killed, but...again with the fire benders? Give me a break.

Now the mr Tarrlok character. What can I say about him...we went far from the psyhologic torment that Zuko went through only to wind up to "I am evil because I am" sort of character.

8 episodes in. Early to judge? No.

Moving on. Love triangle. Boo. Drama like this is the last thing this show needs. Especially if it is executed in such an awkward way.

As for the good bits. I like that they set the next episode in a different time setting. Damn nice mix of old and new. Also, I am glad that we are given an insight between benders and non benders. I had always wondered if the former were hated for their edge.

The enemy actually poses a threat. Good. That I like. I always thought that the armies were defeated a bit too easy. Nice to see that the ...ugh...team avatar...is getting their ass handed to them fairly often. Also, that damn reference. No.
Just no.

Ah well, next episode is today. Might as well see if they can screw things up even worse.

I didn't mind it, looking forward to the next episode.

The Last Airbender was WAY better, without a doubt.

BUT.

For what it is, they did an all right job. If they were to make it like the first one, everyone would be complaining because it would be like they saw it all before.

Hmmm. Apparently Korra will be only a mini-series. 28 episodes over 2 seasons.

That's 3-4 times a miniseries...

THIS IS THE CORRECT TECH CHART

Hmmm, so I just watched the one hour final for season one....

Cheezy drama, but...you know, fair enough.

For a kids show that openly shows death, suicide and acts of cheating and or polygamy...they got some balls.

I genuinely enjoyed this first season of Korra. I hope they make as much as possible.
