There are people still falling for such tricks?

It's like the old ones that were roaming around on msn back then in spanish/german =/

Serously.. if it says its a picture and has a .exe file in it.. That should ring some serious bells.

Also if theres a picture with a link like that, its still possible someone file-binded them together, but your antivirus should pick up that. (FUD binders are very rare to see nowdays)

Thanks for the alert.

Anyway, who does actually open a .exe after being told that it is a picture?
It's like saying check out my new car and you tell them to ride a tree.

PS: Now thinking, I remember my mother asking me to convert .exe files to stuff like .avi or .pdf...

*sighs*

Best keep this up for a while, even though I hear the file is supposedly gone from the link I am sure other junk can still happen.

I want to suggest PMing possible infected people on the forum if you notice their skype stuff acting strangely.

Its surprising it even got so far considering people on disco should have some semblance towards security on the internet.

:\

Great advice from our admins and mods! Always practice safe browsing!

One trick is to go to your folder options, click the View tab, and uncheck "hide extensions for known filetypes" Now you'll get to see what the file extensions are, which will determine what program will try to open the file you have downloaded. Whether it be a .png, .pdf, .doc, or .EXE!! Don't double click any files with unfamiliar extensions or arbitrary executables (like .EXE or .BAT files)...

Keep in mind, unless you know what you're doing you shouldn't change file extensions. Windows will get confused about what software to use.

When receiving archives (usually .zip) be sure to examine the contents carefully; even if you 'know' the sender.
