I won't rant much, in fact this isn't really a rant because its not a complaint. I just got back to playing a week ago and am having a great time, I'd rather be in space. However this is worth saying and reminding people, because after taking a year or so away from FL, I've noticed this right away.
There are alot of players who have been here for quite awhile, and at times its been quite easy to get caught up in doing what we do with Player Bases, extended RP, and all that, so alot of times new players get ignored or prematurely passed judgement upon. But in the last three days, I've actually met three different characters, all of whom were a bit out of RP. One had a few IDs, the other had a poor mixed setup, etc. However after I took a minute to RP and say hi, I found they all shared something else in common: They all were veterans of EVE Online looking for another game. I gave each of them a few million credits and some advice before directing them to discoverygc.com and told them they'd enjoy themselves alot more if they checked it out.
I've seen alot of people complaining about the size of the server population and arguing about removing systems, and I sympathize as a US Player who would love to see more people on--especially outside of the peak times. However, new players like that who've been playing other complex RP games stand a good chance of being excellent players here! Most importantly, I think this community's push to make its mark on the MOTY competition is doing an excellent job bringing in new players-- even a better job then people might think.
So in recognizing this, I'd like to take a moment to remind people that despite the years of RP and things you've had going on, you should take a bit of time out to take interest in a few of the newer players. I think the most realistic way to see the Server Population increase is to actively seek out and help new people when the opportunity presents itself. I'm not telling everyone to drop everything and hold hands with noobs, but as one of the many who want to see Discovery's population continue to grow (an explosion would be ) I figured I was somewhat responsible to do my part and remind others to do the same!

I'd recommend factions take some time out to try and educate and recruit newer members. Same for everyone else. Show an interest and you'll make someone else's game time more pleasant, and maybe even find a new friend or two who can do the same for you.
now that I think about it, I came across one of these newer players. Told me in obvious-OORP that he didn't know what RP was. What I did was explain it to him what RP-ing is, but still iRP. Turned out to be a lot more fun than I thought!
Also, on a related note, he said he's been having problems with taking up missions, saying the waypoint routes won't show up, or even the mission objective (to-be-destroyed-base, as specific example). He was mostly in Pennsylvania, so could anyone check that system out if there's been some bugs lately? thanks.
Quick addition: PROOF!!!
[22.12.2012 01:56:05] DreeStyler: hello, can I ask something?
[22.12.2012 01:56:22] Principe.de.Jade: (Woman) Si, senor. What do you need?
[22.12.2012 01:56:36] DreeStyler: how can I start RP?
[22.12.2012 01:57:02] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) [raises eyebrow] Ehr... RP? Roleplay?
[22.12.2012 01:57:11] DreeStyler: yes
[22.12.2012 01:57:39] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) Uh... Well, I guess, if you were going to roleplay....
[22.12.2012 01:58:00] Principe.de.Jade: (Woman) I think it involves acting out the role of another person
[22.12.2012 01:58:26] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) Then, depending on the world you were roleplaying in, you'd follow the rules listed, know your background
[22.12.2012 01:58:53] DreeStyler: do you play role?
[22.12.2012 01:59:04] DreeStyler: sorry
[22.12.2012 01:59:18] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) Well... uh, I guess if I -was- roleplaying right now, you could call me a freelaner
[22.12.2012 01:59:24] Principe.de.Jade: *freelancer*
[22.12.2012 01:59:46] DreeStyler: ok, thank you
[22.12.2012 01:59:59] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) and, as a freelaner, I would be tasked to... uh... explore Sirius, do random, odd jobs, and what-not
[22.12.2012 02:00:19] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) It's sort of like acting, senor.
[22.12.2012 02:00:59] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) Good luck on your travels, and... ehr... roleplaying.
[22.12.2012 02:01:01] DreeStyler: aaaa I start to understand
[22.12.2012 02:01:11] DreeStyler: thanks
[22.12.2012 02:01:45] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) No problema, senor! And if anyone asks, me llamo es Jaden Armand, okay?
[22.12.2012 02:01:57] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) Or, in Libertonian, my name is Jaden Armand.
[22.12.2012 02:02:27] DreeStyler: ok why not
--- several minutes later ---
[22.12.2012 02:33:44] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) ehr.. just to clarify, I meant that "if anyone asks you who taught you what RP is", then you say it was me, Jaden
[22.12.2012 02:33:49] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) who taught you
[22.12.2012 02:34:19] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) I get the feeling I might have created a misunderstanding
[22.12.2012 02:35:14] DreeStyler: no one ask me
[22.12.2012 02:35:32] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) Just in case, senor... just in case.
[22.12.2012 02:35:54] DreeStyler: ok but still I dont know how to play it
[22.12.2012 02:35:55] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) By the way, I don't think I got your name?
[22.12.2012 02:36:06] DreeStyler: my name is Mark
[22.12.2012 02:36:34] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) alright, Senor Mark.
[22.12.2012 02:37:13] DreeStyler: who gives me the mission?
[22.12.2012 02:37:48] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) Ah, missions? The bar, senor. There are mission agents who can give you various jobs
[22.12.2012 02:38:04] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) But be warned: who you work for, determines your reputation.
[22.12.2012 02:38:11] DreeStyler: but when I get some, the mission cannot be accomplished
[22.12.2012 02:38:42] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) Well... the mission agent usually gives you a route to follow
[22.12.2012 02:38:43] DreeStyler: If I had to destroy base, the base is not on the right place
[22.12.2012 02:39:09] DreeStyler: sometimes the route didnt show at all
[22.12.2012 02:39:31] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) [raises eyebrow] that so, senor? That really sucks.
[22.12.2012 02:39:48] DreeStyler: do I need some update?
[22.12.2012 02:40:23] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) Don't know, senor. Can't really help you there
[22.12.2012 02:41:44] DreeStyler: so, if you go to bar and take job, you go, kill some planes and then got the money>
[22.12.2012 02:41:47] DreeStyler: ?
[22.12.2012 02:41:54] DreeStyler: like in single player?
[22.12.2012 02:42:27] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) Ehr... that sounds about right
[22.12.2012 02:43:15] DreeStyler: hmmm maybe its problem in client, ok thanks for your help
[22.12.2012 02:43:37] Principe.de.Jade: (woman) uh... your welcome?
