Grettings everyone.

I'm having a problem with Freelancer.Every time I meet with 5-6 ships, it will lag, and I have to change the graphic performance in Freelancer itself.

Before in Discovery 4.85 , I had a 32 MB Graphic Card, and I could easily join a large scale battle ( Capital ships ) and participate in it with default Freelancer graphic performance.

When 4.86 was developed, I got myself a 64 MB Graphic Card and after I managed to join a battle, it just laggs, and I have to change the Freelancer graphic performance to 0.

My Current PC Specs:

Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Proffesional
Processor: Intel® Celeron® CPU 2.40 GHz
Memory: 512 MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c

Graphic Specs:

Name: NVIDIA Geforce4 MX 440 with AGP8X
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip Type: Geforce4 MX 440 with AGP8X
DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC
Approx. Total Memory: 64.0 MB
Current Display mode: 1024 x 768 ( 32 bit ) ( 60 Hz )
Monitor: Plug 'n Play Monitor

Everything else is good.

I hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance.

Well, I had a crappy video card also, 96mb built in and I always played at video settings set to 0 because I was lagging in the battle. To be honest, you have a very old video card, it is time for you to get something better. There is nothing you can do, but turn graphic details to 0 and get used to the lag.
Example: When i was playing in a group and 2-4-5 BSs were coming out of a cloak I had about 1 fps per second if not less, i could not aim, could not do jack.

I got a 512 Nvidia for $50 and now i am having orgasms everytime I play.
Hope it helps.

Like Makc_RU said, that's quite an old graphics card you have there, in fact I can't remember the last time I saw a 64MB gcard. Unless you're tight on money, then you're going to have to minimize every detail of the game probably.

But these days you can get a decent graphics card for a very cheap price.

Well, thanks for help.

Hopefully, I'll be able to get myself a 512 nVidia soon.

Thanks

Yeah, your card is well rubbish compared to stuff available now. In fact you should replace whole PC if you intend to play other games on it as well. If you`re just going to be playing Freelancer, see if you can pick up a Radeon 9550 AGP off ebay, and change the card you have for that one.

I can get brand new components through my business, but I don`t stock that old stuff. I`m probably not even allowed to mention it.

Had pretty much the same build.... 4-5 years ago, was a NAS for a little while but now its just in the garage rusting away. I couldn't for the life of me get Freelancer to work well on the MX 440.
But I found Freelancer ran well on my parents comp a Dell Dimension 2400 with an internal Intel on board graphics chip. Worse specs I recall than the MX 440 but ran Freelancer perfectly.

Can only suggest to look at getting a new build really. Just not worth upgrading those old systems anymore. If its just for Freelancer and office work you can get a decent build for around $300 - $400

Yeah, that card is a good one for AGP. I used to have one back in the day. You`ll still need a pretty good power supply though. I would recommend at least 500 Watts

Build your own. It`s much more satisfying, plus you only pay for what you want. Every new PC from a major manufacturer gives you software you probably won`t ever use. (Called bloatware). And most often than not you`ll have Norton pre-installed which in my opinion is rubbish and a resource hog.

I can give you help in this matter as I have over 10 years experience building PCs. And I`m pretty sure that there are others here that can offer you help and adive. We can all give you plenty of encouragement and instruction on how to build your own PC.

Go for it. You`ll save yourself quite a but of money.
