So far as I know, the game can be hacked to work with a joystick. There's not much point though, seeing as it'll actually cause a disadvantage due to the cursor not being locked to the centre of the screen.

In locked cursor games, joysticks give you extra control that can give you an edge. In more twitch based games like Freelancer, it's just a reeeeally slow mouse. Would be a novel way to run a trade ship or cap's turret steer in conjunction with a mouse though.

Theoretically this is possible, if you can find a program that makes the Joystick axises emulate key presses. It wouldn't be very precise without lots of programming, but it is possible.

Power does not corrupt. Fear corrupts... perhaps the fear of a loss of power.

ive just found this

http://www.emulation-evolved.net/?q=node/19

works pretty good, not as responsive as the mouse, but does work and managing to bank and turn as if im in a jetplane etc, prob will be rubbish in combat, only thing is no mouse movement means no targetting for other ships but anyway is fun

now if i could only work out a way to stop my ship from "auto levelling" would be more fun
