Its most likly something in the code that reads your internal ip, FROM THE GAME. Yes an internal ip none readable from the router. But id assume theyd be able to log what internal ip the games using from the game, then send it straight to them. Just a guess though

I can only say 1 thing. An admin could see my wife played the game on a different computer at least. So there must be a way that it tracks something. And honestly not that interested in how it works. If it works it works..

Most games look at the routers IP and the MAC address of the computers Ethernet card. The routers IP is seen as the main access point. Every computer connects to the router, therefore every computer connected to the internet has the same gateway IP. Every computer in the house has a separate LAN IP though.

Usually when servers ban people it's the MAC address that gets banned, not the routers IP. I suppose if the admin had reason to believe everyone from that house playing was cheating they could and probably would ban the routers IP.

It's easy to evade a ban but I'd rather not get into it. I don't want to get in trouble, and I don't want to help anyone who has been rightfully banned.

Actual legitimate question. And while this has been answered in the past, I'm the only one who's replied so far who actually has had console access. (For those of you who don't know, I used to be one of the server admins here.)

We used to simply say that there were ways of telling and leave it at that, since people want to cheat and we didn't want it totally public knowledge. But that leaked out at some point, so it's not under any kind of Code of Silence or anything anymore that I'm aware of.

And for those people who wish to complain about your computer sending data about itself to a central server, the original EULA says that if you don't like it, then don't play the game and remove it from your computer. In other words, your actions give your consent.

In any event, Doj is being his usual dick self with his answer. To the INTERNET, all five of my computers have the same IP address. That's the IP for our ROUTER. The router takes the requests from all our computers (and smart phones, for that matter) and sends them out, and then separates the responses when they come back. Now, on your own network (NOT the internet), everything will have it's own IP address.

So, for the sake of argument, my son comes over (which is now possible, since he also moved to Oklahoma) and we fire up both my laptop with me playing on it and he's playing on one of our desktops, with both of us playing Disco, using two of my accounts. (Say, K'Hara.Ninkasi and BHG|Core-Athena, since they're on different accounts, so we could go shoot each other.) The server will get the following information (and I'm making the numbers up, so don't freak out):

K'Hara.Ninkasi - I.P 110.50.02.02, Comp 1234-5678-ABCD-EFGH time 06/12/13 - 20:30

BHG|Core-Athena - I.P 110.50.02.02, Comp 4321-8765-DVDR-HOTS time 06/12/13 - 20:30

So that would be pretty obvious that I have two different computers from the same place online at the same time.

But let's say that the following shows up:

K'Hara.Ninkasi - I.P 110.50.02.02, Comp 1234-5678-ABCD-EFGH time 06/12/13 - 20:30

BHG|Core-Athena - I.P 110.50.02.02, Comp 1234-5678-ABCD-EFGH time 06/12/13 - 20:30

Or even better:

K'Hara.Ninkasi - I.P 110.100.02.02, Comp 1234-5678-ABCD-EFGH time 06/12/13 - 20:30

BHG|Core-Athena - I.P 110.50.02.02, Comp 1234-5678-ABCD-EFGH time 06/12/13 - 20:30

In both of the latter two cases, it's pretty obvious that I'm multi-boxing to some extent, because no two computers are going to have the same hard drive ID. (Yes, it is possible to make it so, but ... dude, are you going to go that THAT much trouble to cheat at the game?)

And of course, there's always the old stand by, which is simply an admin coming along in his cloaked ship and watching to see what's going on. Two or three transports flying in formation with similar names (Jarvis.A, Jarvis.B, Jarvis.C) and suddenly they hit a jump gate. The ships all stop, and then two of them don't move at ALL while only one of them goes through the gate. Then that one that goes through sits completely still while another one goes through...

It is also possible to do an actual I.P. ban if everyone in the house is cheating - at one time there was discussion about banning most of Russia, but that was sort of in humor - (sort of) - but those tend to be last resort things, because blanket I.P. bans can hurt regular players as well as the cheaters.

Thank you very much. This is the answer I was looking for. By the way, it has nothing to do with cheating, I was simply curious of this aspect/mechanic of the game.

Close but no cigar. :|

As the other person said, if you're playing from two different PC's via a router Wi-Fi connection on both. You could tell because of what this person said. I'd have said so anyway having used a router and looking at it's main settings. The problem with people doing it, they do it to self trade Niobium ore for free to New Berlin from Tau-23 for example... multi-boxing to make easy money without paying a miner to mine them. There are other reasons it could be used for, such as re-entering a PVP fight when killed right away on another PC account in the house. You could also use it as a base owner to transfer commodities to another ship parked at base, then kill your other ship and re-spawn back at the place to keep bringing commodities back as (one way trips) each time.

i.e: 77.100.12.2 - only the green number will change depending on the computer that's connected to the router. This last number is called the host. What was said above me is correct, 2 computers cannot have the exact same IP but servers may only pick up the network IP and not the host IP.

PC MACs will never get forwared out of the router, only the source IP which it's the IP that your ISP gave you.
Your private IP (PC IP) gets translated by the router to the public IP (NAT)
Banning a MAC it's the most unwise choice ever.

Nice networking lesson there agmen.
You can spot a dual boxer very easy.
