*sigh* Andre, Abaddon never said anything to suggest rolling out the red carpet for the hackers.

do some research on 'subnet' then reread a few of the above posts. Alrighty?

And also, Abaddon, I don't really like your suggestion of rolling out the red carpet and welcoming these hackers to come back whenever they feel like it.

Your forgetting one thing. You ban an ip range because people have a Dynamic IP, meaning that you can't just unban one ip for a player thats not breaking rules as his IP would change each time he connects just like the hackers would.

Noones suggesting we welcome hackers, were just pointing out that you can't go around banning whole IP ranges to ban one hacker or you will most likley ban regular players as well. Which then means the community shrinks and the hackers achive there goal of causing havock.

The only things which can be safely banned are proxy's as noone should need to connect through a proxy.

Lets say you're enjoying your game and then, "Oh noes, haxors!" and you start dying. Now, the admins show up *plays superhero music* *People cheering* and they start smiting the hackers one by one. Then, all of a sudden, you go offline. When you try to log back in, it says "lollerz uz are banned!!"

So now what? You talk to the Admins, beg for them to unban your account, but they can't because the Hackers use the same subnet mask. "Sorry Capt., we can't unban you and risk having these hackers come back, you'll have to wait a few days."

Now don't tell me you wouldn't be at least a little hacked off. As Stucuk said, and his metaphor was the best..."Don't kill an ant with a rocket."

nope, i wouldn't, if i had to wait a few days to unban a couple hackers so be it. Doesn't bother me none.

You wouldn't be unbanned if they banned a range to stop hackers. You don't ban an ip range on a temp basis to stop hackers for a few days, you eather do it for life or don't do it at all. Hackers would just use a proxy if there IP range was banned anyway.

You don't seem to be reading previous posts (like mine for example), so ill repeat whats been said before.

If a hacker is on a FIXED IP then his IP is always the same and u can ban it easily. If a hacker is on a DYNAMIC IP then his ip changes with each connection to the internet. Which means that you can only IP Ban a DYNAMIC IP by banning an entire IP range. Everyone on that IP range will be served by the SAME ISP meaning that everyone on that range will have a DYNAMIC IP. Thus you CAN'T unbann a single IP because the non hackers also have a DYNAMIC IP which changes each time they connect.
