This is the new mercenary ID as it stands in my ID proposals:
Mercenary ID
Pilot carrying this ID is a Mercenary who works for him/herself or within mercenary organisations.
Mercenaries can:
* Fulfil lawful and unlawful bounty contracts
* Escort traders and smugglers
* Participate in military operations on lawful or unlawful side
* Scan for contraband
Mercenaries cannot:
* Trade
* Pirate
Allowed ships: Fighters, Freighters, Gunboats
Carrying unmounted IDs in your ship, as well as not equipping an ID, is a serious crime.
I have to agree with Kuraine and similar statements.
Merc are hired for a job they don't initiate it.
If involved with piracy or trade it would be on contract.
Perhaps trade in which said merc brought cargo to specific player (not base for profit), or as an escort (but escorting is already covered seperately from trading.
In the event of pirating, I believe the merc should only be hired to assist in piracy, stolen property would be given to the piratges afterwards and merc would receive payment.
Kind of like the way I play Bounty Hunters concerning military. I don't participate in military actions unless their is military personnel flying with me, this stands for missions too, I don't take navy missions unles navy NPC will be present.

Thing is... How can you prove if theyre just doing it as a sideline? I think if paid by the pirate, they can assist in piracy, as long as they don't get any of the trader's money.

Someone about a moth or two ago was sanctioned for pirating with a merc id (among other things). It was discussed in the sanction thread, but the admins were firm - NO PIRATING WITH A MERC ID.

Make for semi-nostalgic reading. I kinda miss Hood's style of reports.:cool:

As far a trading with the ID, i just took it as selling what falls out of you targets hold when you finish him off, or the loot from NPC's (including the pilots). It would really suck if you werent allowed to sell you loot when being a merc.
As for straight up trading - how much money can you make with that gunboat - didnt do the math or research, but probably not as much as a nice freighter or cheap transport.
