In my opinion flight takes just as long as it is for me, player. Jumping through gates and landing/unlanding take longer then 10 secods, but in a frame of hour or two.
Though some people believe that this is too imposible, and they want a game writen not by them to make "sense". So they believe that actual flight through lane take not a minute but 1 hour.
You're talking about that there was a discussion that things that are, quite obviously time compressed in the game, would (if they were more than pixels in a game) take much longer in a 'real life' type setting, right?
That should be one of those things that should be perfectly obvious. Now, if you're trying to figure out HOW long those things are - traversing an entire solar system via trade lanes - that's another story. Especially since the minor detail that nothing in Disco (or Freelancer) actually ORBITS anything like it does in real life.
Perfect example - Mars could be as close as 35 million miles to Earth, or as far as away as 250 million miles. So the journey would vary between 3 minutes and 22 minutes. (Rough numbers just for discussion.)

No, we are talking about Freelancer universe. Some people dislike that many stuff don't make sense. We role play, or at least some of us. Role play is kind of reality mixed with game. Our characters are not real, however we try playing them as if they are. Though some people are going further then character itself and making universe around it be "real" not as the game said. At least how I see them.
The question is, how many people think the same? I mean, would you rather cover some nonsense in game with illusion that in your opinion make sense, or rather screw the logic and leave everything, that concerns gameplay part in your RP, as it is in game?
Sorry if I am speaking difficult, just dunno how to put it oterwise D:
It doesn't even take 1 hour to cross a large system only on cruise....why would I want it to take LONGER to cross a system in the trade lanes, which are MEANT to make ships move faster?

Nooo, you don't understand. It's not about game play. It's how you put it iRP. People believe that gameplay is going faster then actual movement. Explaining it with "speedup to avoid too long and boring flights". But I wonder how many go the same way, how many think otherwise.
I laughed when Jinx mentioned that traveling through random Omicron system takes months. In general, I consider it matter of INRP hours to get from point A to point B if you have INRP knowledge where are jumpholes and such. Trade lanes and jumpgates were developed to allow people travel within timespan of seconds literally.
Lore also states that unsupported by jumphole/trade lane/jumpgate FTL travel in FL universe takes few months to reach another system. There used to be DSE liner in Coronado that arrived in system exactly this way. Some documents mentioned food delivery from Stuttgart took I think 3 months to reach New Berlin - back when finest way to travel was some nerfed cruise engine equivalent.
