Another thing I just noticed: I had literally no idea that we had a huge website button below every post (if you've got it set up in your user profile, that is) as a replacement for the tiny little icon we had on IPB. I didn't think that URL appeared anywhere outside of my profile page up until a few minutes ago...

I have absolutely no idea how I've been able to miss that for over a year.

I'm not entirely sure I understand you here. What should be a thing? Events that you post can already become visible to everyone. If you meant the opposite; you can already have private events that are visible to only you.
