on Frontierspace-Mod (FLShell) we just used templates to start with your desired faction (I'm not sure if FLHook supports templates).
On Disco you can relatively easy make foes back friends again and versus, which was almost impossible on Frontierspace, if you'd
once pissed a faction it was almost impossible to get them back friendly cause they got 20x easier hostile than friendly, to get a
faction friendly (being neutral) you needed about 10x the work then you do on regular FL or on Disco mod.
The only prob (on orig. FL/Disco) is that each repchange with one faction affects also almost all other factions rep wich makes it kind
of hard to get a completely messed up rep fixed.
The easiest way to get the desired rep is still to create a new char and just work for the desired faction?untill you're tagged as you
wish to be.
Maybe it would help if the admins would offer a reset-service for developed chars with a completey messed up rep - just like the
rename-service.
Or just create a new char from the scratch and obey the rep-rules from the beginning.
I've played with starting templates on other servers & would highly recommend them too. However despite being a RP server there isn't the appetite for starting templates here. Dunno why...wish there was.
If a rep goes wrong mid-game then it should be up to the player to resolve, not admin.
Please read one of Dustin's tutorials with some bog standard advise on the mattter.
The suggestion has been brought up before.
It received a massive flame response.
Seems the community does not like the idea of someone being able to use a simple command to set their rep after soooo many others had to "work" to fix theirs.
The other reason was the community seems to think that it could be used to just fix a rep after a player screwed it up. If the community actually knew what a /restart did, they would not complain about players using it. (sets rep, moves the player to a specific location, sets cash to a specific amount)
That and the longest period of time it has taken me to get my rep to what I wanted was a week.
And that involved getting 8 other factions to drop so the one I wanted took the primary spot.
So no, I do not expect the community to accept the idea of either a /restart option or a locked rep option.
If that happened, there would be less to complain about.
The sad thing is you can get neutral/friendly with the criminal element by just shooting all the storage pods in New York. If you want to be neutral to all, then kill Xenos in Hudson - the old Vanilla fix. There are other formulas, all just as obvious & brutal. So that hard work you scoff at, is worth scoffing at. :D:P
The //restarts I have seen only work when you first create a character, giving the player a headstart in RP and very little else. I would of thought the idea would of been lapped up here, but how wrong was I.
I can agree with this template thing. It was also familiar to me when i long time ago tried Frontier space mod.I think that would be a nice idea though.

As far as i know, The FLShell uses lots of memory and if every one is setting there templets every time
the server would crash more then it does now
That's what i heard
As they use FLHook on this server and not FLShell (which is b/c of security reasons) it wouldn't effect
the serverperformance (at least not much or for a longer period of time) if templates were used.
Usually you use those templates only once at the start of your chars carreer, if you'd use em on a
developed char of eg. rank 40 it would be reset to rank 1 or 10, depending on the value thats set
in the template, so noone would ever use a template on a developed char.
The only way to fix a chars rep later on is to set it manually via Ioncross or with another tool, which
might be desirable when you've messed up your char b/c you didn't know how you've to behave when
you started.
There are every day many new players found on Disco and not all of em are FL/Disco pros who know
how things work.
So the refix-service I thought of would "just" be kind service of the admin team to ensure that rookies
can find their way into RP with propper rep/tag without being frustrated that they've maybe spend hours
and hours of time for almost nothing.
However, it's possible to fix a messy rep, but you can't expect those to stick to their role while trying
to fix their rep - which causes lots of unneccessary discussions (on my oppnion).
I support this, but preferably as a 'one-use per character' thing. Screw up your rep? Fix it yourself. Want to change factions? Fix it yourself. But I think that people flying all over the place trying to get the rep they want adds a lot of OORP to the server... Let people just set everything right once, and make it a bit harder for reps to change drastically just for killing the wrong NPCs.

Shame on Mace (Frontierspace developer/modder),
that he lost interest in further development (or at least fixing the last left bugs), and even more shame
on the modder community that Frontierspace didn't find a new home - more then 2 years of hard work just to get lost finally:rtfm:
