Sup.
We all differ, when it comes to what we seek in Discovery. Some people come here for the RP, be it the more serious forum stuff or a much more relaxed ingame environment, but as I see more new people ingame ask about this, I realized just how hard it is to answer. How exactly do you ''max out'' in Disco? What is our endgame content?

Obviously, the biggest, most pricey ships aren't. It is a newbie trap many people fall into from the very beginning. The moment you undock from Erie, you see other shuttles like your own, the sign of a starting player, but right in front of you is Battleship Gettysburg, as if telling you that "You now fly that little thing, but this! This right there is what you will end up flying!" Now, not all people get influenced it, but it does sort of set the tone of what the person would strive for. They see these Rank 50's flying around in their snubs and would never think that with just how many new shipclasses Disco adds that in the end, we are pretty much like the vanila servers, where most people focus on fighter combat.

To the vets here, you have also probably come and gone and returned once more, having to start over from scratch perhaps. At which point would you say that you just stopped and went "Yeah, I am fully back now. I have all I need."?

How would you describe YOUR endgame content?

For me, my answer is pretty simple.

I reach my endgame level whenever I know I have access to three things: A combination of ingame experience and knowledge of the current ingame happenings to know where to go in order not to get bored. When I have enough ingame wealth so that I can easily set up the ship of my preferred choice in order to join in the fun. When I have people I regularly play with in order to share that experience.

Basically, I know that I have maxed out in Disco, when someone on skype can tell me: "Hey, Spaz, there's a fun little fight/RP going on in X, want to join?" and I can easily reply "Yeah, no problem, give me 5 minutes to set up a character for it and let's go."

That would be mine. What is yours?

End game content? War never changes, yn.

I think there is no end game content in sand box - there is just a time when you're done with some business and move to something else. That's why we're lasting for so long.

I started as IMG only. And wanted all IMG ships. Then all IMG ships in all systems with an IMG base. And in the end leadership of the faction. I am maxed out in that sector.

I started to do what Curious describes: tap into other activities. With these side activities, I am content when I have vhf and bomber in all major activity centers of the faction, so that I can do what Spazzy described as "participate on short notice". I see Skype, TS info about action, and can pick which side because I have both in like 3 min flight distance away.

It's nice to game like that.

When I think of "Endgame" (apart from the play of the same name by Samuel Beckett) I think of the point that you will rich and then stop playing.

In most other games it would be the conlcusion of a story or a goal that you reached, after which you see no point in playing it again, exept maybe to find some easter eggs or hidden sidequests.

For a multiplayer game like discovery, the goal isnt to complete a pre-set quest, but to have fun exploring, building your character and stories, or reaching some kind of self-set goals of accomplishments (like creating a faction, a station, owning a certain ship, permanenetly adding something to the mod, holding a leadership position, or simply making friends). Thing is, its up to the player to decide when he reached endgame, and that point will be where he sees nothing more that he wants to do in discovery.

So in here, the only endgame is to lose interest in what ever kept you here. That probably will never happen in the sense that a player thinks "I am at the zenith, I will stop here because I am satisfied now and will stop at my moment of triumpf". (well, maybe the people who became admins and then stopped showing up at disco did that). If you got your faction, your ship, your position, your friends, you'll want to continue playing with them almost certainly. You'll only really "end the game" for these reasons:

-you're dis-illusioned, you'll understand that the goal that you set for yourself can never be reached, one was or another. Your goal could have been to become the Nr1 guy in charge of everything and everyone, or to simply have a little fun without getting stepped on everyhwere you go.

-you saw all the content (would be the case fast if discovery was only a small expansion), or got bored with what you saw and dont feel like exploring any more (which would happen fast if you saw that the large majority of systems are boring wastelands filled with copy-pasted bases and no interesting new things).

So the only real endgame in disco would be rage-quit or boredom.

Cap 8 Zoner Nephilim/LN Dreadnought/Carrier with BS Scanner.

Jokes aside, for me, it's usually when you earn enough credits to sustain you through whatever crap you want to do on the server. As Spazzy said, "Give me 5 minutes, I'll set-up a cap 8 gunboat to help."

Unfortunately, I get side-tracked often and end up using tons of credits on other stuff. So I always end up having to make credits anyway.

TL;DR: When you have enough credits to stop 'credit grinding'. That's the end-game.

There is no end-game, which is a bit sad. You can have a lawful/unlawful duo in every house after having played for a day, and a CAU8 Nephilim after a week. You just set targets for yourself. In terms of prestige I think the endgame is to become a good snub PVP'er.

Also I think we, the community, have done our best to spoil a potential endgame in capital ships. If people wouldn't have been so touchy/vanilla/oldphag Disco could potentially have had a magnificent fleet endgame.

--------------------------------------------

Look at the RNC vs LNS and Texasburg of the past; it was GREAT activity but because a few whiners got killed, they went on skype and all the oldphags that hardly play the game rolled out their tears and wrecked something a lot of people really enjoyed. And the result? Dead Rheinland and Liberty crawling with capital ships with no one to shoot or get shot by save for dull nub mercs that can't take on fighters but just spam novas at caps and think that makes them pr0. The devs even modified the ID and closed the jumpgates for god knows what reasons, except for old l33t player tears.

I know at this point what I want the most for my personal endgame is being part of an organized fleet fighting other organized fleets, because that is a unique challenge in terms of leadership, following orders and so on, but even though we have the ships and the assets in the mod, vocal parts of the community opposes it.

Hello, I am one of those vets you speak of. I have come and gone twice for no real reason other than new games that had come out I had to play (DCU, battlefield, Ect.) The last time I played I had billions in credits and over 50 ships and I still found things to do! The name of the game is RP so if your looking for an Endgame experience I would say there isn't one. In Disco there is always something to do wether it's ingame play, forum stuff, or even Dev team. In a universe that is forever developing and expanding one can always find a reason to play!

If you do find yourself feeling that the endgame is near make sure you leave with something people will remember you by. If you can do that then you did something right.

You max out by testing the boundaries of what is politically correct... I mean acceptable, and, having found very tight restrictions you play the few interesting roles left to you until the monotony of the base game becomes so blatant that you can't stand it and quit more out of principle than rage.

For me, when I have so much money I have no idea what to waste them on.
