Alright, now to Igiss and the admin team. It's not to hard a thing to add that little piece of invaluable information to the current rule set, is it? One thing that this whole discussion has demonstrated is that not only there isn't any hint of a rule regarding fleeing by other available methods other than those of "cruising away" and/or "docking", but also there isn't even a consensus as to what "fleeing" would be if it isn't by the aforementioned methods.

Just write it in the proper rule that additionally to cruising and docking, once you're out of scanners range (and please define if that's 10k+ or completely out of sight from the radars) you're out of the fight regardless.

I'm not proposing a new rule, as it seems that admins are already using that directive as a rule, the players just aren't aware of that (as far as the comprehensive rule set is concerned).

---

On a side note, it's pretty easy to drift away from the furball if you're organizing a flight group. Many times have I flown in circles to write and instruct my group (assign targets, redefine groups after someone gets destroyed and the sort) to find that the fight has moved away from me some 2 - 3k while I was busy typing.

As much as smaller distances would cover any PvP situations, we must remember that there are still people that like to RP their encounters, even in the middle of a fight. From a fighter that may be easy to accomplish through circling, but when capitals are involved you need to get a bit out off the mess so you can write. That doesn't mean that one would be able to "escape" the fight. If people are in fact targeting a ship, it will never really be able to leave the fight. This would only apply to ships that aren't in fact targeted in a fight and as such would be able to create that distance. Also, ships would still not be able to cruise away or dock for that, since the rules already cover it. The scanners range is more than enough for that.

* No cruise in combat

* No rule lawerying to rule someone out of combat mid-engagement, this is the worst kind of violation, "Oh he drifted 4k away!, hes out!" Rubbish..

* Fleeing should be considered 10k minimum

* I will allways pull fighter escorts away from their CAP support and the escort will try and pull me back towards their CAP, it's called tatics..

* Chopper is correct about Sheild Camping, I have been called a sheild runner just for guarding my sheild when it goes down because the opposition wants me to fly at them head on with no sheild, anyone who does this is crazy, Vanilla ship or not your asking for a beating. I have been called a sheild runner by idiots for evading when I had a full sheild hahah! Conclusion: Stop calling people sheild runners when you have no clue what it is and your too weak to take down someone who knows how to evade.

* The whole issue probly does need some clarification in the rules to stop people trying to rule-lawyer their way out of an engagement.

All those fancy reports state just one kind of shield running, the kind with your cruise engines on...

If you were to thrust away (and stay resonable close) you are not violating rules...

lol you know whats funny? I Havent been called a sheild runner dispite the 30+ or so times ive evaded like heck until my sheilds were back up using the thruster of coarse. O and SOMEHOW dodgeing 1000+ shots from 7 fighters shooting at you isnt very fun

Ive had enough of disco for now. I might be back at the next mod release.

Well ... you can only beat a dead horse and talk to a brick wall for so long before you come to the realization that nobody is paying attention.

I'll just wait till one of you get sanctioned for trying out your theories. Should be some good reading.

Now you know it's all being over-thought when people are making up terms like "shield-running" and "shield-camping"..
You mean, evading your opponent long enough for your shields to recharge, aka, resource management?
If shield-running means fleeing i a straight line away from combat until your shields are back up, then turning to re-engage, ok. I can see that as being covered under the fleeing rule and not needing it's own weird term. If evading the enemy by whatever means possible during combat while flitting in & out of gun range, remaining engaged in near combat is called shield-running, then it's a stupid word and unnecessary rule. Discovery is the best dang FL server I've ever had the pleasure of flying, but good servers can go bad fast when people try to come up with a rule for every stinking thing.

Maybe we should just declare a victor as soon as one's shield is down. While we're at it, let's ask the NFL to play flag football too. Close enough, right?

Maybe we should all dress in red and march in a line too, otherwise we'd be illegally making it too difficult to kill us?

Shield-Running.....
Shield-Camping....
Come on!! You serious?

Baltar... Shield running on thrusters is not only legal, but very good for your hull integrity. It is a viable tactic that prelongs your life by a lot... If it is sanctionable, then I admit, I do it all the time! I can even arrange for a screenie if you'd like so you can report me. It is not illegal thou... Rules don't mention it anywhere.

What they do mention is: Cruising, the moment you start the cruise you're out. And cruise can be used very effectievly no capital ships to shield run. That's why it's Illegal, becouse it ruins the whole balance.
