He wrote a wonderful post regarding the apparent change of the community over time - something that is most evident when you come back after a long leave. Has anyone heard of the boiling frog anecdote?

the problems with disco are not so much of the gentle addition of heat, but in the gradual removal of grains of sand, as per the sorites paradox. little things have been taken away from the sandbox. there used to be parity between pirates and traders, but cruise-drain needed to be balanced by battletransports. we used to have a vibrant and widespread economy, until xoria made everything go to gallia. we used to have the chance of sitting in one spot and catching passing traders, until jumpdrives and cloaks came along. we used to be able to determine where people would be travelling to, so we could catch them, but now pob's are more numerous than the players - and the flip side, people used to see my cargos and presume to know where i was going, and try to head me off, and now they just annoyingly stick on my tail. we used to have a stable and lag-free server, until the anti-cheat plugins kicked in. we didnt used to have such bad feeling, until ganksquads started smashing other peoples toys and destabilising the server.

the devs create new toys, which is wonderful. but they seem to overlook the flip side of the Coin: what are they taking away?

edit: apart from zoner caps
