After thinking over this thread, I was thinking about what is "doable" for server staff and what would be interesting for players. I know there are some closed, unused systems and player bases are easy ways to create spawn points, so I'd like to see if there's any interest for organized POB attack/defense events.

Rather than having a single base per side, which would result in an endless swarm of respawning defenders at one spot, there can be a designated spawning base at the team's far end and objective base(s) closer to the center in any combination or configuration depending on the premise of the event:
  • 1 base for 1 team - last stand/holdout for defenders
  • 1 per team - your typical even assault/defense
  • Multiple for 1 team - simulating distant attackers, marauding pirates, forces defenders to decide how to distribute defenses
  • Multiple per team - the largest, most chaotic battles, with either side running to blitz a lightly defended base or rush to fight fires
This would also encourage the use of mixed groups of ships, with the composition adjusted to fit the premise and balance (though I realize some slots may fill up faster than others and not all factions have access to the same types of ships).

Anyway, just a quick idea that could use some criticism/suggestions.

Always wanted to experience this type of content, the trouble is simply organizing it.

True, there are personal differences, varying interests, time zones, conflicting schedules. However, a sandbox system aside from Connecticut (or add another partition to Conn?) and a general event template might make the process a bit easier for people - especially if there are concerns on where to hold it (bases, NPC patrols, random interlopers). Perhaps even temp bases within standard systems as a RP event device.

If nothing else, what if players had the ability to request temporary bases to give them more options for events? Although I'm not looking to create an events team or take on the role of a mediator/referee, I wouldn't mind putting my money where my mouth is by helping with placement and setup - after decisions are made - to spare folks the extra work.

I've always wondered if we could have some sort of Admin administrated base in conflict zones with only defense platforms and no upkeep required, or something. They would change affiliation every time a faction wins it and the winning faction would get some sort of bonus. Just to give people something to fight over at least, I don't know.
