I believe it should keep the turret. You can still stick a deb or flashpoint or something in there for damage output if you don't want to mine.

I think it's important to still have cheap fighter mining ships. Not everyone is in this for profit. Some people actually enjoy being a dedicated miner in a fighter. Plus, it's a junker ship, it makes sense for it to be able to mine scrap if it needs to.

If you don't want to use it for mining, just put an offensive turret in that slot instead of a mining turret. It's that simple.

It's selfish to want to remove a ship's ability to do something different just because you personally don't use it for that.
