Religion, pertaining to Freelancer

Hmmm... Religion in Freelancer is an intersting possibility, and should be carefully explored. Problems with same arise when we get imports(o looky again) but this time import religions from real world.

I wouldn't really call it imports. Then again, my view of the FL-verse is pretty much dead-on described by this.

To be honest, I don't really see the logic that the proviving of the existence of extraterrestrial life=end of major religion. I'm reasonably sure Hinduism (remember, there may have been some Indians on the Bretonia) and Buddhism (not an exclusively Eastern religion anymore) wouldn't take a hit, and the Islamic concept of djinn might actually be used to explain the Daam K'Vosh, for example. The Bible doesn't describe black holes or the Apollo landings (well, unless you happen to adhere to the Bible code theory;), nor do any major religious texts I know of (then again, my knowledge of things like the Rig Vedas is limited).

However, roleplaying religious characters as a subtext, much as Epyon does his and handling it in a fashion like Agnus Dei's strikes me as a viable alternative to draconic crystalline deities. And, in most cases, it's what I do. I can see reasonable objection if it's being used largely as a platform to attack a religion/religion in general (for example, a thinly veiled caricature of Billy Graham who's actually an Outcast plant or someone writing up that a certain Indian prince was a plot by a rogue DK to exterminate humanity..) but I can see legimate use of religion within Freelancer.

Okay let me steer this in the intended direction:

--Lets get ideas on how Religion could Roleplay in Freelancer. What areas or factions are ripe for such an idea, how would it dictate the factions roleplay? Yes I know everyone thinks certain areas are certain religions but the question originally posed was "How can this RP be part of FL" and who has ideas on how to make it happen?

I think there is room in Bretonian Armed Forces groups for a multifaith chaplain, which seems plausible given the polyreligious nature of the current British military (they have a devil-worshipping Scottish seaman, for crying out loud!). Alternately, you could have multiple chaplains playing different religiosu roles, depending upon need. For example, a majority-Jewish would only likely have a rabbi and a Church of Bretonia priest, whereas a more mixed one might have one man playing a more humanistic role counseling members of different religions. A similar thing could be done in Kusari, but more around Eastern cults and religions, such as Buddhism, Taoism, Shinto or Confucianism.

Liberty is probably officially secular, but I can see a few references every now and then to a singular deity (For example, the Liberty Navy might mention God in it's motto, like the USMC or US currency does). Zoners would be particularily interesting, and I can see a decent population of pagans and freethinkers in them, along with some Objectivists. For Outcasts and Corsairs, you could have background characters who serve as chaplains, blessing ships and offering prayers for the crew, or even ones that serve in more major roles in organised structure, such as someone who would be the Archbishop of Omicron 85. For another example, Roberto Rastapopolous made a small prayer in an altar before entering an Outcast conference, and made occasional reference to angels and saints watching over Malta.
