as a long time (poor) flight simulation fan I've always wanted headtracking, however my cheap $8 webcam just couldn't cut it with facetracknoir under the low light conditions I'm used to. So recently (as in a few hours ago) I've been looking into IP surveillance cams that have infared night vision eg. this one and I was wondering if anyone has experience with this?
Eg. response time, but most importantly reliability, ie can the facetracknoir software successfully track my face in the nv mode, also are IP cams even suitable for this application, how difficult/is it possible to connect the camera "directly" to my computer (ie used as a normal webcam), will the camera be automatically panning or doing some annoying sort of security mode, will my eyes be burned by the IR LED bulbs etc.
Any insight would be appreciated.

If you want something that actually tracks you, use http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/

Otherwise, nah, IR LED won't burn your eyes. Same bulbs used in things like TV remotes.

not that I'm doubting its capabilities, but track ir is so expensive though :|

That's sorta how life goes.

You get what you pay for, and most of the time (brands advertised on TV not withstanding) you pay more for good stuff.

Other than that, no idea what else you can get.
