tl;dr

To avoid confusion, both inRP and ooRP - with overall reputation - The Core is no longer part of BHG, because while Bounty Hunters are like real hunters, the Core is more like a PMC that established their own Bandit Kingdom.

Not bandit Kingdom. Totalitarian State.

What I don't understand is the fact that the Core was originally supposedly funded by the BHG and APM. That's full of logical holes anyway, but never mind. In any case, the implication is that the Core is not financially or materially self-sufficient. So how are they now surviving when half of that revenue stream has disavowed them, precisely because they were an unprofitable money pit?

Edit: Thing is I did not know whether BHG Core was introduced by the devs as an NPC faction at the beginning or if it was first introduced as a player faction. Now I know.

If you want to be brought up to speed check The Core sub forum. There's modern threads, as well as some additional background in the archives section.

Not so sure about APM funding BHG Core directly (they did stuff like the Nauru project but otherwise I'm not too sure) but yeah, BHG did fund them. BHG funded them through bounty contracts.
Nowadays, The Core is funded by APM drawing in revenue from ship sales. The Core is also funded by Iridium sales, and most importantly of all The Core seeking and obtaining nomadic technology and materials and auctioning them off to the houses (which is in complete contrast to The Order and is their niche).

One of the reasons why BHG Core wasn't self-sufficient was due to their fetish for throwing pilots upon pilots at their enemies, ignorant at the cost of doing so. The Core are still somewhat heartless and immoral, but we're not that stupid anymore.

Whilst it'd hard for me to say that the above can finance endless makos upon makos upon makos, it's at least better than installations and fleets being funded by the 2 mil contracts from the Liberty Bounty Board. We're definitely not Gallia, but we're neither desperate nor weak.

I'd love to say that we're supplied by corps frequently and that is evident in game, but guess what? For some reason pretty much every faction restarts as hostile to The Core and there's no bribe to remedy this. This isn't a rephack, as IDs that aren't our enemies are indifferent to us.
