I have got an trouble with Disco and switchable graphics. Basically, I have a laptop with two videocards, one is Intel HD graphics (integrated) and other is Nvidia GeForce 820M (external). Intel card is very poor at everything, and it gives me frequent FPS drops and other instabilities (even in Freelancer), while Nvidia carries WarThunder on middle settings at a steady 60-70 fps. The issue is that Freelancer refuses to use Nvidia card and switches to integrated graphics, even if I explicitly tell it to use high-performace GPU (either through Explorer or Nvidia Control Panel), so I get annoying FPS drops (and the Nvidia card reports of no activity). How can I force Freelancer to use external graphics card? Through googling I got that it has something to do with flconfigdatabase.txt, can I modify it without being banhammered by server anticheat, and what shall I put into Nvidia section here if it's safe?
Considering all you're doing there is telling it what GPU to use? i doubt it'd be a server side problem considering that's an external-game thing. As long you don't modify ini. files for in game things i.e guns and whatnot you should be fine. That's what i generally go by, you can change external and some basic graphics stuff and anything else i wouldn't touch with a 10ft barge pole. I'd still suggest you PM an Admin to confirm but i highly doubt it'd be a punishable offence.
As for adding things to that file, i can't quite remember how to do it, but as far as i'm aware theres a 6 character code followed by the card model i.e 820M in the Nividia section. Either that or i'd imagine theres a parameter along the lines of "Target video device" - That is something i recall from am old Laptop i had which i needed to edit the file as it had a similar setup. I'm sure if Alley drops by a much more helpful response will be generated.
