TO: The R&D OF THE IMG|

Greetings,

In regards to the message attached, I am writing to request several IMG-craft small craft for the use of the Archangels F.C. As I understand it, we have been given clearance by Mr.Henderson to be able to fly these vessels though their systems preform at 75% efficiency. I would like to ask if it is possible for the R&D wing of the IMG| to co-operate with our club to increase the efficiency of these vessels to at least 90%.

I await your reply.

Good afternoon Mr Sunny,

The AFC have proven a valuable asset to IMG in the past through your escorting and bounty hunting services, and anything that allows the AFC to more effectively deal with the IMG's enemies is in both our interests. We have a variety of snubcraft here on Aland ready for modification and purchase - at a reduced price of course. Why don't you fly a sample of your technology down here so that my engineers may determine the nature of the incompatibility and any modifications needed?

Cordially,

Dr Tomoko Uno
Vice Director - IMG Research and Exploration

Greetings,

Excuse me for the delay in transmission. In short: Net problems.

Firstly, attached and here are the records of one of my ships being traded in for an IMG Very Heavy Fighter and the configuration being done to the best of abilities. All in all, the power efficiency is at 75% of the original.

The ship currently has 4 Archangel Codenames installed as well as 2 Debs. While it is enough for some work, you can imagine it has it's drawbacks.
We have done some flying with this ship already and it is parked back inside IMG hangars so you can have a look yourself at what needs to be upgraded and tuned correctly for greater efficiency.

Thank you,

FROM: SUNNY

Good morning Mr Sunny,

After studying the sample equipment you provided I believe I have diagnosed the issue. As you are probably aware, IMG vessels operate on a significantly more powerful powercore than the majority of ships in Sirius, and as a result your equipment is engaging safety protocols to prevent damage to itself, greatly hampering the output and efficiency of the powerplant. It is for this reason that we usually recommend that Freelancers wishing to purchase our ships stick with the default core and systems configuration.

However I realise that your members have unique requirements, and your focus on racing and design philosophy means that the "stock" configuration is simply not suitable, especially regarding propulsion. For this reason I have endeavoured to come up with a solution allowing you to safely use your current equipment with our ships.

It turns out that the weapons and avionics systems should be a relatively simple electrical fix, however the modification of your engines will be a significant undertaking. This is because, without going into too much detail, your fusion engines are simply unable to handle the tremendous temperatures and pressures generated by plasma from a powercore more powerful than those which they were designed for, and necessary for the speedy operation of a vessel of this mass. However I believe I have devised a solution, and our current efforts are focusing on the upgrading of the superconductor arrays that generate the magnetic field necessary to contain the plasma. I have attached a basic sketch of the modification using the readily-available civilian ZN-990 Mk 1 engine as a base should you or your engineers find it to be of interest. The prototype modification is currently under construction by our fabrication team and if the static firing results are favourable we should be able to have it mounted and test flown in a week's time. I will update you again on our progress then.

Cordially,

Dr Tomoko Uno
Vice Director - IMG Research and Exploration

TO: Dr. Tomoko Uno CC: Jack Henderson

Well met,

The expedition to move the finished IMG prototype to Blackport 66 from Omega 3 was a great success!
We had not only done that but also had an AFC Civilian Carrier of our own loaded with IMG small craft for the journey back to our Hangar.
The convoy operation ran smoothly and without much hindrance. I thank you as wel, Dr. Tomoko Uno, for bringing that extra supplies on that freighter.

Here is linked the relevant data reports of the trip.

I think that takes care of the upgrade. I would like to ask for a final report of the upgrade as you mentioned you'd have.
Other than that, everything seems to be in order and the prototype known as the {AFC}-Dart[P] seems to be running well. With the new installments from the freighter's cargo hold installed, it will be working well.

Thank you, IMG.

Cheers,

Log Entry: Project 823-5DF (AFC Powercore Configuration)

The following is a report detailing the events and successful completion of research project 823-5DF. Several months ago I was contacted by a Mr 'Sunny' of The Archangels Fighter Club (AFC), requesting that I look into increasing the efficiency of IMG technology when used with AFC equipment, with a view to purchasing several of our ships if the project was successful. I agreed to undertake a research project on the basis that "anything that allows the AFC to more effectively deal with the IMG's enemies is in both our interests." At my request, Mr Sunny delivered one of his Sabres to Aland so that my team could analyse it and determine the nature of the incompatibility.

As is often the case, the cause of the issue was relatively simple but the solution altogether more complex. As I explained to Mr Sunny, IMG vessels operate on a significantly more powerful powercore than the majority of ships in Sirius, and as a result the AFC equipment was engaging safety protocols to prevent damage to itself, greatly hampering the output and efficiency of the powerplant. It is for this reason that we usually recommend that Freelancers wishing to purchase our ships stick with the default core and systems configuration. However I understood that AFC members have unique requirements that meant that the "stock" configuration was simply not suitable, especially regarding propulsion, and so modification of existing AFC technology to be compatible with our ships would be the only option. The weapon systems and avionics needed only a simple electrical tweak as it turned out, however the modification of the powerplants used by AFC required significant development. Eventually a prototype was constructed based off the ZN-990 Mk 1 engine found in the Sabre supplied by Mr Sunny.

-----------------------The design phase
A sample of the completed blueprints---------

It performed well enough in static testing to progress immediately to its installation in a prototype Lhotse which performed beyond expectations. As a result Mr Sunny placed an order for fifteen pre-modified snubcraft, consisting of seven "Manaslu" class Light Fighters, five "Lhotse" class Very Heavy Fighters and three "Nanda Devi" class Bombers. The order also included other modified weaponry and engine components, which it was agreed would be taken to Blackport 66 by myself in the Tsukuyomi, my personal freighter:

Pre-modified components
75 modified engine components
75 modified weaponry components
Raw Materials
25 units fusion diodes
25 units High-Temperature Alloy
25 units Superconductors

A full cargo manifest and proof of delivery may be accessed here.

Upon completion of the order it was decided that to guarantee the safety of the prototype, manufactured parts and the purchased ships we would travel with one of the regular ore convoys, as is R&E policy. To this end Mr Sunny flew the (rather strangely named, I might add) {AFC}-Pick.Up.Chicks[P] along with one of his pilots to fly the prototype, by now named as the {AFC}-Dart[P]. The convoy departed from Aland as normal, flying the usual route through Bretonia to Planet Denver in Liberty space, and then the short trip into Kepler and to Blackport 66. The rest of the convoy then proceeded up to the Taus, while I stayed overnight on Blackport to give a short lecture and demonstration of the technology to the AFC.

-------------------------Cruising across Kepler
Arrival at Blackport----------------------------

Overall, the mining operation, convoy and delivery were entirely successful, as was the project as a whole. All that remains to be done is a check-up to confirm that the modifications perform adequately in actual use. I look forward to cooperating with the AFC again in the future, and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours with their new IMG ships.

This is Dr Tomoko Uno, signing off.
