I think the new ships fit in pretty well.

The only problem I have with them is some of the new ships have the ability to shrug of weapon hits that kill or cripple orignal FL ships.

After a while practically everyone gets that new ship, or ships, and people who don't want to get clobbered in unequal fights.

I perfectly understand that they can not be removed, i have understood that from the beginning. My question would be id instead of new ships for the next version, anyone who would be going to make one could take one of the current ships and just tweek the skin or UV map(?what is this anyway?) to make them look sort of older and slightly battered (also with bright ships XShuttle and death scythe made greyer) so the file could simply be switched

I realalise that that alot of work has been put in to all of discovery and im very thankful it has as it still out performs all other mods.

Hmm, that's an interesting idea: skinning ships to fit into the Discovery universe a little more comfortably... I'm not sure who'd take up the challenge, I certainly wouldn't mind having a go.

Not everyone. I still have 4-5 Eagles. Korrd has a Rheinland BS. My Ravenclaws will likely be Blood Dragons (the ship not the faction) soon, which are simply upgraded versions of the dragon. I already switched out my Talon. The only fighters I use are normal FL fighters, some upgraded, some normal. The only added ships I use are capships. Such as the Zoner Juggernaut. I know a few others use lots of FL ships as well.

Which is my point, a zoner juggernaut can shrug off heavy mortars when just 2 will kill an osiris with a mk 7 armour upgrade, and 1 mortar will kill an osiris without any armour upgrades.

Practically everyone has got or is saving/intending to get a frigate.

Just because it's got more armour, power and turrets then a cruiser, is more agile and it can mount both BS and cruiser turrets.

This means anyone who tries fighting a frigate in an original FL BS, such as an osiris, is as good as dead.

Where is the fun in that?

The only person who'll find it fun is the person with the frigate killing BS's off or someone who loves losing.

I'll admit that we do need some different ships but could something be done to make them as weak against mortars as the original ships?

Preferably without increasing the mortars damage/blast radius as that won't help.

I will also be getting a frigate, but mainly for the chance to try out all the ships. Though I did want a ship bigger than a cruiser, but smaller than a BS. And maybe people do want it for its stronger weaponry and armor, but I think it still it has less agility, especially against the Kusari Destroyer, since that thing is just like a heavy gunboat in terms of agility.

But I see your point, something needs to be done to even the balance for ships weak against mortars and torpedoes. Maybe stronger armor. Or something that gives it an edge against normal weapons, while the other ships get an edge against mortars.
