Except that most of the rules were introduced because people were deviating from the standards too much and finding loopholes. What Kopesh is trying to say is definitely not a similar case, but it's not as simple as you put it. Just because it's allowed within the rules, doesn't mean you should do it (the simplest examples: asking to drop all cargo from any transport you encounter while pirating, ganking on every opportunity you have, shadowlogging, etc.).

Nah, i'd say the rules are so stringent because the mods and creators of this mod want to feel "immersed" in their own little universe when they play this game. Otherwise I can't imagine why the rules are beyond stringent to the point that you can get sanctioned for just not saying "hello" back to someone. Foremost to remember is people play this game for fun. If to me having more fun is shooting the s-h-i-t with someone who is on another team rather than just being forced to blow them up for the thirtieth time, then so goddamn be it. When in the history of forever has anyone had fun by being forced into doing something?
To be completely honest I got so fed up of the rules after playing for two weeks I just quit and never came back. I wanted to enjoy a great mod and revival of Freelancer, not be forced into scripted situations neither side actually cares about.
You are not doing that quitting and never coming back thing so well.
The rules are because a lot of bad stuff happened and the ID rules are so even when people aren't that interested in rp there's a simple set of guidelines that will help them and keep the game rather logical and to an extent "fair".
There is not a lot of RP you are forced to do and a lot of people here have fun. So I guess it's just not for you.
