Jacob Ronald Carter was born in 795 A.S. His father, Ronald Carter, was trader from Liberty, his mother, Jacqueline Hill is daughter of Bretonian policeman Jacob Hill. He was born on Sheffield station in Manchester, when his mother was moving to Liberty, after her marriage with Ronald. He was growing up in Liberty, and his father wanted him to be trader too. But Jacob wanted more exciting work, trading was too boring for him. After an argument with his father shortly after his 22nd birthday, he grabbed his things and left his home to become a mercenary. It was hard from the beginning as he had almost no money, but with help of some friends he made, he was soon at least average mercenary. He was escorting traders mostly to dangerous border worlds. It was a bit risky with his ship and equipment, but he luckily survived for some time. After two months, luck left him. Some Corsairs attacked his convoy and destroyed everything, including his ship. They left him in his pod, floating in space. Some zoners picked up his pod when he was near death. His insurance company refused to pay him, saying that "he was taking unnecessary risk". He had almost nothing. He decided to go home, but he found that his father is already dead, killed by Corsairs on one of his trade routes. He was already angry at Corsairs, and this was too much.
After some days, he finally decided to join BAF, was accepted, and now he is trying to get rid of Corsairs whenever they fly into Bretonia space.
