A thought occurred to me this Wednesday morning about the concept of a sub-culture of people in Sirius, as well as where exactly they would originate: Louisianans.
Louisiana, for those unaware, is one of 50 states in the U.S.A. It is located along the Gulf of Mexico, with Texas to Louisiana's west, Arkansas to its north, and Mississippi to its east. As a culture, it has an interesting mix of French, Spanish, African and Native American roots, with the State itself being named after King Louis XIV of France. I had the pleasure of visiting Louisiana recently, and noticed that Creole and French symbolism and vibes seem to be a commonality, at least from a tourist's perspective. From a Demographics perspective, as of 2014, roughly a third of the population is African-American, roughly two-thirds is White, and there is about a 5% distribution of Hispanics of any race (I believe that includes Hispanic-Whites, as well). Most of Louisiana speaks English, though 7% of the population seems to speak French, which is interestingly high for a State, at least in my eyes.
With Louisiana being a part of the United States of America, it would seem to make the most sense that many people originating from this State during the Alliance/Coalition War in Sol would be aboard the Liberty sleeper ship. However, with an interest in the French culture, it would also make sense to me if during the war in Sol, some of the folk from Louisiana found themselves amongst French battalions of the Alliance, and thusly, eventually found their way onto the Gallia sleeper ship.
If one were to create a character based on this Louisianan culture, where would they most likely come from? Liberty? Or Gallia?
If from Liberty, you could have an interesting fascination with the Fleur-De-Lis symbol and a tendency to brandish it whenever possible, even if it is typically associated with Gallia. You could even go so far as to have a squadron in the Liberty Navy fly the Fleur-De-Lis with Libertonian stylizations, as a mocking gesture to the Gallics.
However, if a Louisianan character originated from Gallia, it would make for a potential alternative to French-style text and speech from an in-character perspective. How interesting would it be to hear a Bayou accent coming from the lips of someone born and raised in Gallia?
TL;DR - People from Louisiana. Are they from Liberty, Gallia, both, or neither?
If you were to Role Play a character a 'la Louisiana style, where would you place their origin? Is such a sub-culture too far-fetched in Sirius? Let's hear your thoughts on the idea!

I always thought (in my headcanon) Sirius would be crawling with sub-cultures, or at the very least planetary cultures due to vast distances and at times century-long isolation/separation. But apparently the contrary seems to be the case, as everyone is either a low-key parody of their ancient Earth counterparts, or otherwise a perfect replication. Not complaining however, as it keeps things simple, and it seems to be the way the backstory was designed, as a sort of thematic parody. I guess role-playing characters from such sub-cultures would be interesting, as long as you don't start eating every other vowel and replacing them with apostrophes.
I always hated this thing where people use in their RP. Like, saying you are speaking german in Rheinland. You don't. You peak Rheinland, maybe with a different dialect based on the planet you grew.
Saying stuff like "japanese" culture for Kusari is far fetched. Its been almost 1000 years since Sirians left earth. Its been a couple more when they were on Earth, who knows how cultures evolved back there. Maybe people from Italy and Germany joined in a god knows what sort of alliance.
And imagine the colonists of early days in Sirius. Spending hundreds of years on different planets and stations makes you think language would had evolved different.
Take example the series The Expanse. Those people are not even that far in the future, and The Belters already have "their own" variation of words, culture and customs than Mars or Earth.
Edit: People from Louisiana would not even speak french by this time. Think how many of them would had made it out in the Alliance-Coalition war in Sol. Now think how many of them would had made it on a colony ship. Now think how many of them would had survived in the 800 years.
Would had been enough to keep their culture? Don't think so.
