I have seen it role played several ways some believe it to be one item others have said it to be one ton of materials I am just curious if there is an actual size for it?

I've always considered a unit to be a measurement of space, given that some goods are a lot heavier or denser than others. For example, I'd say that 5000 Units of Oxygen would not be the same as 5000 Units of people. 5000 units of Oxygen would be a lot more since Oxygen is smaller than a human - or at least that's how I see things.

And while I agree that is true how much oxygen would then be stored in one unit of cargo space? That is the heart of my question. And thanks for the insite it has led to a possible solution I will check out.

I've always thought of it as cubic metres. I don't think there was ever a specific value determined though.

I think it might be 1k
Every 10h that is
Crew are a requirement for the base to operate. 200 per base level.
• 1 Crew eats 1 Oxygen + 1 Water + 1 Food every 10 hours
Devastator - Today at 8:20 PM
ok so tier 5 would be 200*5=1000 crew 1000*2.4=...
2400
Alex [ORG] - Today at 8:21 PM
Oh yea, you asked 'per day' I didnt notice that
Devastator - Today at 8:22 PM
average human usses 550 liters per day
1000*550=550000
liters perday
550000/2400=229.2
so one unit of oxygen equals 229.2 liters
or 60.5gal
uggg its not solid though its compressable
wiat food isnt though
Alex [ORG] - Today at 8:27 PM
And what about water?
Devastator - Today at 8:28 PM
oh yea even better
so the average human uses 80-100 gallons per day.
so we take the mid estimat 90 and plug it in
90000
so 37.5 gal per unit
There are 7.48 gallons in cubic foot
so aproximately 5 cubic feet
for one unit of water.

5.01336898396(actual math answer for cubic feet)

Option A) Whatever you need it to be for your RP to make sense.

Option B) A day's worth of oxygen, according to PoB requirements.

EDIT: Somebody more ambitious than me even did the math for Option B while I was posting, kudos.

You can see individual cargo containers stacked atop of each other at the commodity dealer of any planet. They look like they could hold 2-3 tonnes of water (1m x 1m x 2-3m).

Oxygen can be compressed and water in POBs surely isn't all for drinking, and people use much more for hygiene and especially industry, than drinking.
