I've been working on this sig for one of my new characters:
I'm mostly happy with it but I dont think it is quite right yet [EDIT: I take that back, I'm not mostly happy with it. I think I have a decent start but I need some direction and Im not quite sure what yet]. Any thoughts ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. (please ignore the background color if you can, photoshop doesnt quite sync up with normal display color wise for me, have yet to figure out how to fix it).
Maybe, I just like creating a somewhat customized character instead of ripping one off from something else, like anime or sci-fi or spawn... If I could draw I would make better looking ones, but I cant.
I mean I dont fault anyone here who does and I've seen some that work really well Like Orin's and Tenacity's, just offhand, but when I create a character I've got an image in my head and it's hard to get close to that without doing some work designing them myself.
It lacks vibrancy and focus. Your current sig is very good, try to imitate it with your new one a bit. (Also, using SSs from the game for backgrounds rarely looks good. Use a better quality space scene, not unlike the one your current sig.)
Kudos to you to making your own character renders from scratch. Might not look as good, but that's pretty cool.
Quote:I mean I dont fault anyone here who does and I've seen some that work really well Like Orin's and Tenacity's,
More contrast in the background, higher levels and more vibrant colours. A tad more complexity (and, yes, that's coming from me:P) wouldn't harm, I think.
Desaturate the letters, about 50%. Then, you might want to play a bit more with perspective, transparency and borders. Flip the Anubis, let it 'fly out of' the signature. Use burn/brighten tools in Photoshop to intensify the impression.
The character doesn't really fit, colourwise. Try to synch the colours used in the general sig with those you use for the character.
Finally, the text should either be below or above the black outline, not directly above it.
The character really does not fit into that whole green/gray theme. Not at all. And it's too cartoony. Perhaps you could try adding a bit of 3D'ness to it and some texture shading via the graphs software you use?
(If you need help, I could help with fitting a character in there... I could make you a render, or if I get the time, I might even draw one)
Also, is it intended that the battleship is "foggy/color shaded with the background, while the fighter is 100% clean?
My guess would be that your background was already there, and the fog effects of the game causes this difference. If it's intended, then nothing.
Then the font. Nope. Sorry, I don't like that either. And I really don't see the point of the letters to be partially out of the image. I saw that on quite a few siggs around here... And yea, doesn't work for me (one could get kicked from school if does that for a poster - believe me, I know how it feels to be burnt with critiques @ art school).
Anyway, yea, the start is good.
Overall :
- Positioning is fine, the fighter's position is perfect as noted above me before.
- You deffinetly have an idea there, which is good.
- I like the idea of the half contrast idea. That's a +
"Exploration is really the essence of the human spirit."
Thanks for the feedback all. So you all know most of this is gonna be scrapped, I just had an idea that really didn't pan out. But I will use your feedback to do some major overhaul of it.
Leanah- as for the character, yeah I definitely should add some rendering effect to it, at this point I really was just slapping things together. If you feel like drawing something or making a render that would be amazing, I could even throw you some credits if you wanted. There is a larger version and character background here: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?sh...hl=willard+thad
Just so you know it was created with a flash character creator because I didnt want to take the time to Photoshop a real person and I have no skill with Illustrator.
At this I think I have more than enough feedback on this concept, again, Thanks Everybody!!
