It's the American version of our ANZAC Day so I can appreciate it. Lest We Forget.

Nice knowing what others around the world refer to their version of Memorial Day. I spent mine with my ailing father, an Army dentist and veteran himself.

Although there were probably more, the only family member I concretely know of dying as a soldier in war is my grand-uncle Rudi. He was run over by a truck filled with retreating soldiers that wouldn't or couldn't stop for him, in the last days of World War 2. I know of that because I asked my grandpa who was the man in the picture. Don't know if Rudi would, should, or would even want to be considered a "fallen hero". Hurrah for willing or unwilling dead guys in wars anyway, I guess.
