The Miyasu Zaibatsu - 見やす 財閥
"We are not here to shape Kusari or to earn the most money. All we here aim for is to help the people of Kusari."
- Miyasu Sanae (825 A.S.)

Brief Overview

Founder: Miyasu Kiyoshi
Foundation date: 283 A.S.
Current President: Miyasu Iriel
Chief Executive Officer: Miyasu Sanae, Miyasu Yasouj
Members of the works Council: Muteki Ayame, Higuchi Noboru, Miyasu Yuuji

Company History

Founded by Miyasu Kiyoshi, second son of a shopkeeper in Dazaifu, a small city on the surface of Planet Kyushu. Kiyoshi’s father originally sold Miso and Rice. After years of good business, the family opened a second shop in Kurume. After roughly four years, Kiyoshi left the family’s business in Kurume to his younger brother and with great risk payed for the travel to Edo, more commonly known as New Tokyo. He settled down in Kyoto City, nowadays Chiyoda, and founded a large gofukuya shop in 283 A.S. The foundation of the gofukuya shop is widely seen as the begin of the Miyasu Zaibatsu. Miyasu Kiyoshi’s wise acts leaded to a continuous grow of the first and oldest subdivision of the Miyasu Zaibatsu; Kiyoshi-Fuku.

In the year 321 A.S., the year of the Sakura coup, the Miyasu Kiyoshi established their first business deals with the now largest Keiretsu in Kusari; the Samura Keiretsu. Miyasu Kiyoshi willingly leaded the Miyasu Keiretsu to become a supportive business partner of Samura, acquiring cheap loans and received privileged deals. As a result of this, Miyasu entered the mining business, exploiting a large variety of the resources in New Tokyo’s less explored areas. The earned money was later used to expand Kiyoshi-Fuku to Planet Honshū and open a large amount of shops on Kusari’s populated planets. Unfortunately for Miyasu, the mines were exhausted after just a decade, leaving the newly founded Miyasu-Kōzan to collapse and being sold.

It required Miyasu Kiyoshi’s son, Miyasu Juro, to expand the family business significantly. In 342 A.S., the Miyasu Bank was founded, located on Planet Honshū, Awaji-shima City. Miyasu Juro chose this location to become the new center of the Miyasu Keiretsu. As one of the first private banks of Kusari, and the first one on Planet Honshū, it did not take long until the Miyasu Bank gathered sufficient wealth to engage into business in space. Miyasu Juro and the family council took a large risk when they invested a large amount of money in 352 A.S. to enter the space mining business. For a short time, the Miyasu Keiretsu even operated their own mining operations in cooperation with the Gas Miner Guild but due to a sudden shortcut of money as result of the first financial crisis of Kusari in 356 A.S., Miyasu put a stop to their mining operations but remained as one of the Gas Miner’s main financiers. When Miyasu Juro was diagnosed to have cancer, he overloaded the Miyasu Kereitsu and the Miyasu Bank with debts and quick started two more branches for the Miyasu Kereitsu in the tea and tobacco industry. Quickly gaining popularity with still existing products such as the “Golden Bat” cigarettes or their own variation of a Gyokuro, an expensive form of the common Sancha.
With Miyasu Juro’s death in 361 A.S., the first woman in the family’s history took over business. Miyasu Juro’s sister, Miyasu Hanako, leaded with a firm grip despite the large opposition regarding a woman in such a powerful position. Miyasu Hanako managed to establish herself with the foundation of Miyasu-Kōkan, a subdivision fully focused on organizing goods exchange between different Keiretsu’s. With her sudden death in 412 A.S., an era ended for the Miyasu Zaibatsu.

It faced stagnation, growth of the companies declined and by 450 A.S., Miyasu had to agree to a request by Kishiro Technologies in order to gather sufficient money to keep all companies alive. They became sub-contractors of Kishiro Technologies, outfitted with the new business partner’s technological expertise, Miyasu oversaw two medium-sized factory producing components used in Kishiro’s well-known Optical Chips.

When the partnership between Samura and the Gas Miner Guild fell apart around 550 A.S., another era of growth was over for Miyasu Keiretsu. Kishiro Technologies found themselves a less dependant and Kusari-centered business partner in the Gas Miner Guild. As a result of ceasing deals between Samura and the Gas Miner Guilds, Miyasu Bank lost a considerable amount of its long existing investments and the sub-contracted facilities were closed. Due to tensions around 564 A.S. with several Samura businessmen, the still ongoing cooperation between Miyasu and Samura almost fell apart completly.
Forced to re-consider their next steps, Miyasu focused on becoming a main supplier of basic goods and supplies for the small companies and shops of Kusari, with great success. In the year 647 A.S., both, now largest Keiretsu’s of Kusari, Samura and Kishiro re-established contact with Miyasu Zaibatsu, seeing Miyasu’s great stance as “middle man” between the small people and companies of Kusari and their own, large facilities. With this, the next upswing of Miyasu was saved.

As a result of this, Miyasu-Kōkan grew to become Miyasu’s largest department, even larger than the Miyasu Bank. With the new wealth, the Miyasu family’s mansion in Awaiji-Shima was constructed and finished in 674 A.S. A mansion resembling the style of the ancient palaces prior to the Sakura Coup.

Since 820 A.S., Miyasu Sanae is the official President of the Miyasu Zaibatsu. In 824 A.S., Miyasu Sanae became politically active and soon became Minister for Health and Education in the Reformed Empire of Kusari. Due to Miyasu Sanae's rapid political career and eventual election to be the first female Prime Minister of Kusari, the Presidency of Miyasu Zaibatsu moved to Miyasu Iriel. Although, the new President rarely shows her face to the public, she started intervening Miyasu Keiretsu more and more with modern Kusari’s politics.

Since 826 A.S., Miyasu Sanae and Miyasu Yasouji, her twin-sister, have invested money into a small logistical fleet for inter-Kusari good exchange, granting Miyasu-Kōkan more influence while avoiding the requirement of external transports in form of sub-contractors.

Due to the extremely harsh competitive nature in all aspects of Kusari's economy but especially the space shipping business, Miyasu-Kōkan was continously under pressure and soon could not bear the financial risks coming with staying neutral between the two great Keiretsu. This prompted Miyasu Iriel to invest into planetside storage facilities for rent to smaller companies, as well as pursuing direct alignment with one of the two great Keiretsu.
After lengthy failed negotiations with Samura Industries, which proved to be wary of permitting Miyasu-Kōkan the degree of autonomy it desired as subsidiary, Miyasu Iriel managed to strike a similar deal with Kishiro Technologies in 830 A.S. - While this achievement damaged the companies reputation with Samura, the promised additional flow of goods due to contracts involving foreign companies was worth the risk.

Current Sub-companies

- Miyasu-Kōkan (Inter-Kusari good exchanges and storaging, contact link between Kusari companies)
- Kiyoshi-Fuku (Traditional gofukuya brand, widely known for its huge variety of traditional clothing and combinations of
traditions with modern styles)
- Miyasu Bank (Private Bank company with outlets on all settled Planets of Kusari, mainly offering fair loans to the smaller
people of Kusari)
- Miyasu Hokenjo: 35 partially state owned hospitals across all settled Planets of Kusari, including one clinic on Planet Harris.
