roleplay is not a one sided thing. - the player himself has a big deal of responsibility on disco - which also includes self restraint.
if i am a smuggler, i choose sides - AND i don t swap sides like underwear. switching sides is bad for your reputation. - no one likes a turncoat - and thats what you are then.
now you say.... you adjust your reputation. - but thats game mechanics. NPCs are fooled by it, - but is our standard the standard of NPCs? or just the standard of NPCs when it suits us. - you don t want every BHG player to behave like their NPCs - do you? - thats why we limited the BHG players beyond anything compared to their NPC counterparts.
now its very much like zoner reputation. - if i am a pirate ... a serious roleplayer, mind - not a lightweight ... and i do like to pirate zoners. - i jolly well make sure that i am HOSTILE to zoners. henceforth i will have zoner NPCs fire at me - AND i will not use their bases again, EVER - or untill i make up for it double.
but who can force you to do so? - ........
no one can do so but yourself. - so the question is - are you serious enough a roleplayer to turn yourself hostile to zoners? - few are, most find funny excuses to still make it possible for them to use their installations "cause see, i cannot buy the supernova elsewhere" <-- think about that before acting hostile, imo.
the above is an example from the PAST. - now, its about smugglers. - YES, i can make a smuggler that docks with outcasts, corsairs, navy, and rheinland alike. - a smuggler that keeps everyone, the BHG included on a green level, .... its VERY easy to get such a reputation. - maybe i even fly around with a police tag.... cause .... well, the police is green to me, too.
but .... should i do it? - no, not when i m serious about it. when i m serious, i pick sides. - i say, corsairs are my friends, and outcasts are not for example. - i will build up a reputation ... a REAL one, not one that is reflected in colourful bars in the rep table. - i make sure that when i appear in gamma, i am greeted like a good business partner, - NOT by the NPCs.... but by the OPG, brotherhood, benitez and if possible by as many non - factioned corsairs, too. .. THAT is real reputation.
now - you want to be a friend of the outcasts, too. - no problem with that... you are a shady person. - of COURSE you can make it so, that you receive the same welcome when you fly to Malta.
but - if rumor about this spreads ( and it will ) - your reputation goes down with both. - at that time, it is upon YOU, the player to adjust YOUR NPC reputation, too... that is what you might call "responsibility" - how many smugglers have it? ( or for that matter - players as a whole )
would you turn corsairs and outcasts ( NPCs ) red, cause you messed up your player reputation? that is what a serious RPer would do. - cause and consequence.
